What to do in Birmingham?
Discussion
I'm going to Birmingham tomorrow morning for a work conference, I've never been there before.. Is there anything worth doing whilst i'm there? I'll be there at about 3pm tomorrow, and have work relates stuff to do 9-5pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
I'm thinking about bringing my DSLR with me too, i'm not sure if it's a good idea or not?

There's always the big wheel

For eating out there's the chinese quarter and it's got the "balti triangle". I'm afraid it's been that long since I ate out anywhere in Brum that I couldn't recommend anywhere specifically though.
There's even the soulless Star City if you fancy trying an obscure Bollywood film. It's got a casino as well. http://www.starcity.org.uk/
Also, unless things have improved, try to avoid the night clubs on Broad Street if you don't want to get shot.

Depends what you want. Culture, food entertainment, history?
It has a lot to offer as Britain's second city. It's a thriving place with a real buzz about it.
Ignore the detractors for the moment they are about fourty years out of date. Be more specific. Easily enough to see and do that will keep you occupied.
I always think of it as like London but without the crap and with friendlier people and easy accessibility.

I think the accolade of second city is also well out of date, by about 60 years. Most people would agree that Britain's second city is Manchester.
Err, no they wouldn't. They would know that Brum is much bigger than a northern slum.

go figure

Brum population: 1,016,800
Small Northern village: 464,200
If you want somewhere that is a bit nicer than Broad Street, try St Pauls Square near the Jewellery quarter. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&a...
Sometimes its full of wannabe wags in limousines, but usually its quite nice. The setting is good too. Alternatively head down to some of the canalside areas. There is quite a nice area off Broad Street called Brindley Place.
And check out a pub called "The Old Bank" or something near the Cathedral. Its a refurbished grand old bank and makes a great setting for a pub!

I got here earlier this evening, I'm out in Great Barr.. I went for a walk
around and there doesn't seem to be much going on around here.
Not sure if I'll venture into the city tonight, I might leave it to tomorrow.
There is nothing in Great Barr but houses, schools etc. it is a suburb to the North - there is a buffet island up the Queslett Road towards Sutton Coldfield which is all you can eat chinese food. Just get into the city centre and you may well be surprised that Birmingham is not the crap hole that a lot of people reckon. Also if you prefer a good walk in the park (nature photography) go further up the Queslett Road (Eastbound) and cross the Chester Road down to Sutton Park Streetly Gate.around and there doesn't seem to be much going on around here.

Or go north into Walsall and find a chip shop serving deep fried mars bars (another myth but a funny one all the same).
