Having been guilty in the past of being a "Disaster Tourist" (taking advantage of a countries economic/social problems for a cheap holiday experience) would now be a good time to book a couple of weeks in the Greek Isles?

Is their economy likely to have bombed and prices collapse due to mass unemployment, thus making it cheap destination or are prices likely to rocket as they try and recover as much cash as possible and making Greece hideoulsy expensive to visit?

Spent the last 2 summer hols in Greece and could not believe how expensive everything was. How on earth the locals survive as I am sure their wages are low yet everything was West End prices+.

I like Greece, specifically the island oh Rhodes and the village of Lindos. Bags of historical stuff to do if you're into that (I am).

Let me guess, you were drinking in tourist bars and buying your water from minimarts on the corner?

Agree with Croyde I'm afraid. I know the Rhodes town area very well, having been there many times on holidays over the years. The place HAS gotten very, very expensive of late. Meals out etc are verging on double what they were 5 years ago.

Same goes for Portugals decent areas. I couldn't believe the difference in price of having a good holiday compared to a few years back. They are now at the stage of pricing themselves out of the market for all but the 'all inclusive, when does the bar open' crew

When you look at the cost of a decent family holiday in either of those two places nowadays, you can do transatlantic for very little more.

Potential holiday HOME destination. You could probably pick up all of Rhodes for handful of Great British Pounds Sterling soon.

I found the same in Cyprus in 2008 - it was the same price to eat n drink as the UK.

Yes yes - but they aren't the types that PH loves are they?
They are the dungaree wearing, man hating, Guinness swilling, Brut splashing, non-shaving lesbo's that nobody wants to see

It's still in the Euro, so you're going to suffer with the exchange rate.

Plus they have crappy plumbing, which I make a point of trying to destroy in order to force the little feckers to get civilised. I recommend everyone to follow my lead on that point.

The women are too swarthy for my tastes.

I very much enjoy traditional greek food, however.

Mind you, you will get stuck there and Greece is going so far down the tubes that they'll probably eat you after they have finished fking you.

I know.

I know what you're thinking.

I should be writing travel guides, right?

Friend used to go to Cyprus a lot, and he said exactly the same thing. Also, he tells of a massive increase in crime against Tourists there over the last 2/3 years, with rented villa's getting targetted, pickpocketing etc being utterly rife now.

If thats true, thats another European destination thats shot itself in the foot, big time.

Went to Greece a couple of years ago. Athens (utter st hole, never, ever again! So bad, on the last day, we went to the airport 6 hours before our flight just because it had air-con and was out of the smog), boat to Santorini, Paros (very briefly!), Ios (hahahahaaa) and back to Athens. Cost me a lot more than I was expecting.

Would quite like to do another island hopping holiday but only if it was financially favourable.

It was a shame that the bomb in Time Square didn't go off (obviously with no victims though, of course...) as that would have presented a perfect opportunity for a cheap week of shopping and entertainment in the Big Apple hehe

Yes but you get great weather, a better view from the restaurants and nice warm clear sea. Maybe it should cost more than the UK?

Considering the UK £ is still 20% down on the Euro, it's not the fault of the Eurozone countries.
