Help! 13 nine year olds, one tent and a novice!
Discussion
O.K, I need some good advice and tips from the PH campers out there,
Somehow my soon to be 9 daughter has ended up having an overnight camping party in our back garden for her bithday. One 2nd hand E-Bay Ridgi-Dome 10 berth/2 bed pod later, this Saturday all hell breaks lose. I intend to kip in a small tent immediatly outside the door of the main tent (which will have thirteen 8/9 year old girls inside) in case any of them decide they would rather be home/ in our house etc. We've mentioned to parents about sleeping bags, torches and the like, and we should be able to get power to the tent for lighting etc.
Aside from not inviting Gary Glitter, any tips for the party, tent, stuff to keep at hand, amusing all the kids, keep foxes away etc etc?
And did I mention I've never camped before!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Foxes will keep well clear so don't worry about that. Make sure they all have some form of sleeping mat or thick blanket to put underneath their sleeping bag. If they don't then it can get very cold as all their body heat seeps into the ground.Somehow my soon to be 9 daughter has ended up having an overnight camping party in our back garden for her bithday. Space ready cleared in your house in case it starts to chuck it down and they have to move inside.
Don't sleep too close as you may not want to eavesdrop on their conversations. My Scouts are aged 10 to 14 and the conversations I sometimes overhear them having in tents at night are generally best not heard.
If you've got the wherewithal to have a small fire and toast some marshmallows on sticks or sizzle some sausages they will love that. If doing marshmallows just remember they get very, very hot.
Show them all where the toilet is and have the back door open and easily accesible for the inevitable visits. Get them to take their torches out their bags before they go to sleep. Nothing worse than raking around for one when you're busting for the loo.
As to the party, just the usual stuff really but let them be kids and have fun in the outdoors if its a nice day.

Well, 6 pm Pizza Hut, 8pm back at house, 10 pm in the tent, 12ish off to sleep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All woken by the birds at.......................4.30a.m!,leading to the surreal site of 13 nine year old girls have a sack race in their sleeping bags!!!
BBq on at 6.a.m for bacon and sausage butties, 8.a.m. water cannon fight and parents collected at 10 a.m.
No arguments, broken limbs but plenty of lost property, and 6 girl ( so far) telling their mum it's teh bets party they've ever been too.
I shoul bloody think so lasting 16 hours!
Thanks for your helpful tips Nevin.
