Lake Como in a day?

Im currently considering my camping options in June.

Having considered Lake Como,and thinking its should be a good days drive, people think im mad? Am i??

Dunkerque to Lake Como takes roughly 12hrs.

I've done Calais to Como and Calais to Turin both in one hit. With the exception of getting lost in the middle of Turin both trips were straight runs with no real delays. I certainly knew I'd driven the miles but with the excitement of going on holiday coupled with copious amounts of Red Bull (smuggled in as at the time it was banned in France) and strong coffee we made it.

We drive to Italy once or sometimes twice a year and now prefer to get a crossing early evening and drive a couple of hundred miles through France then have a cheap overnight stop before carrying on the next day. This is a far more relaxing and also wouldn't be such a disaster if you were to get held up in traffic jams.

Midday crossing. Do a cheap night around Reims. Then a night or two in Interlaken, then over the passes into Italy. Bloody fab!

I stayed at a campsite in Meggagio two years ago, fantastic setting and well within walking distance from some nice restaurants...

I've done Calais to Cannes in one hit a number of times, which is another 100 miles on top. It is tiring but easily do-able especially if you can share the driving.

It's harder if you do it as an all-nighter, but it does give you 2 extra days of holiday (assuming you do the same on the return)

Well basically ive only got a week off, maybe a day or so extra.

The plan is to get the 2200hrs crossing to Dunkerque and then stay at Formula 1 that night, make an early start and then head off.

Ive being 'umming and rrring' for a few days, deciding where is best to go, i went to Lake Garda a few years back......drove it in three days in a Defender, which was easy.
