I have managed to get a good deal for a holiday in the Algarve in the summer.

I am looking for an idea of how much the food costs as we only have a breakfast provided at the hotel. Wehn we have been to Paris etc we usually work on 150 Euro a day.

we have looked at some of the travel guides but some say 2 course meal for 9 Euros others say 20 Euros.

We will be over there for 2 weeks so just looking for a head up on how much Cash i should take!

Thanks

We went at beggining of may, stayed near Albufera.
Prices were OK, i'd heard it had got really expensive. 150 euro a day would be hard to get through unless your a very heavy drinker.

We dont drink that much.. More concerned about the cost of food for 6 people!

What was Alburfera like? we are staying near there but we have access to a car so can travel to the coast or inland

If you are taking children then stay away from the main strip in Alburfera after 9pm, some real tools on there and lots of drugs changing hands from my brief experiences of it

Cant comment too much on the area that you are staying as my place is around the Vale Do Lobo area closer to the airport, however in my younger years we always stayed in that neck of the woods and it was considerably cheaper to feed yourself then some areas that really take the wee wee with 25 euro for a steak. There should be a fair bit of competition trying to grab you trade, your worst enemy is going to be the exchange rate which at the moment is making anywhere in europe somewhat more expensive then say the states. Portugal tends to be a little more expensive its next door neighbour Spain, so might be worth having a small emergency pot if it costs more then expected.

Great Place and the people tend to be really friendly

If you have young kids watch out for the strong under tow in the sea it can easily catch you off guard.

Hope you have great time

Good point about the under tow. Did a bit of bodyboarding up the west coast of Portugal a few years ago during a day out while on holiday where Madelin Mccan was snatched. It was really strong up there and if you go thrown off the board then it was a strange sensation being dragged under by a wave and then pulled around by the under tow, would definitely be an issue for younger children I suspect

Another thing I would recommend is taking a light hoodie or fleece just in case. When we were there, middle of August, the wind blowing in made it quite chilly once the sun had gone down, far too cold to sit around in shorts and t-shirt anywhere by the sea front

I am not to bothered by the exchange rate it is what it is.. Had to stick the bad exchange rate while i was in Paris over the new year.

I just want to make sure that i have cash in hand.. will always have the cards etc. but i do not like using them abroad, unless i really have too.

Thanks
