Mauritius in July with a Child

Dear all, we are thinking of organising a beach holiday this July to Mauritius (one of the few places we can actually use BA's airmiles to in the summer assuming BA hasn't collapsed by then)! Anyway, we're looking for a good hotel with a kids club for our 5 year old and flexible accommodation (we would prefer our son to have his bed in a seperate but connected area - we don't like the idea of a seperate hotel room - too easy for him to let himself out etc. I've mainly looked at the North/Northwest coasts as I realise it's winter in July and that strong easterly winds can make life chilly on the eastern shores. So, has anyone taken a family holiday there? We don't mind paying a goodly amount but some of the prices are equivalent to the average annual income of a British Family and I can't bring myself to be quite that extravagant for only 12 nights! I would add that we are a fairly quiet family, we're not after raucous nightlife or trench warfare at dawn to snare a sunbed. If anyone's got recommendations, I'd be very grateful - I seem to be wasting my life on Google and Trip Advisor.

We stayed at the Shandrani a few years ago, which is actually South East of the country. Lovely sheltered bay for snorkelling, sailing and water skiing. Beautiful pools and beach with waiter service.

Kids clubs for most ages, although our two preferred to stay and pour sand on us most of the time.

We had a master room with kids bunk bedroom off it and a patio looking out to sea - very spacious.

I'd recommend it to anyone...

Be carefull where you chose to stay if you do go to the north , it is package deal city.

The client base is far different to the rest of the island too.

thanks folks, keep it coming!I'm still prevaricating/looking for the impossible - ie 2 rooms in a private, quiet 5* hotel without having to pay over £1000 per night! So much easier if we didn't have our son with us, but i don't think he'll countenance being left with Granny again!

we like Paradis ,they have 2 bed apartments iirc, on the opposite side to the airport too

July won't be bad. We went on honeymoon in August ten years ago and it was great. It's probably better for a child then as it doesn't get too hot.

We recently stayed in the west coast, at the Sands in Flic en Flac. I can't recommend the place highly enough to be honest. they do have 1 apartment too there, have a look, 145m square. I don't recall seeing any kids clubs but remember seeing lots of couples with young kids. We were on our honeymoon so we didn't rally take notice of those kids related details eheh.

I'm anxious to go back, it's a real paradise of an island.

Blue bay isn't it? We went around the whole island in our 2 weeks holiday, the day we had in Blue bay was amazing, snorkeling was awesome! My facebook pic is of us on the stretch of beach "behind" the Shandrani.

You can get villas at the Prince Maurice with two rooms. We were there a couple of years ago when our first child was 18 months old. It worked very well.

We got a deal to Anahita in, 1K for 10 nights half board, golf and buggy everyday. To be honest that is the deal of the century. We always go to Belle Mare Plage in October but this was too good to miss.
