This is mine form last week..

Get on a train at Chessington to Waterloo, all good so far and nice and relaxing.
Get off at Waterloo with all the other sheep being herded through the gates, oh, this is fun, Right through.
Where am I going now?, Waterloo east to get the train to London bridge, nothing to bad so far, even manage to get a train to London bridge quickly and plenty of seats available.
This is easy!....ha!... spoke to soon, get to London bridge and wait for the train to Hayes, no cancelled, bollx.... wait for the next one I’m early... no cancelled, really getting pi**ed now,
Beginning to sweat like a rapist in a we house stood on the platform with the great unwashed, next train, no cancelled again.... oh for feck sake, going to be really late now, next train no such fecking luck.
Really want to beat anyone that works for southeast trains with the nearest vending machine, Oh What’s this, the next train is cancelled as well, no correction, they tell me all trains are cancelled.
So told to get to Lewisham and go from there, so follow orders and go to Lewisham, only to be told again that all trains cancelled! Right now really want to go and stick the head of the tw*t in London bridge through the vending machine glass.
Oh feck now I’ve got to get a bus! Aaahhhh! Really, ok find the bus stop and get on the bus... oh fecking this is full of freaks and care on the community rejects for feck sake where do these people come from?
You freaks get back indoors and never ever leave the house again.
Right finally arrive at my destination, well nearly as I’ve now got a mile walk to the office as it's right next the train station, and no buses go there, w*nkers, it's now 10.30 and got the first train at 7.12
So you eco warrior tossers, let the train take the strain...
Not a chance......
Ever!!!!!!

Not reading that but once I paid £72 for a 1 way ticket from Stafford to London because the train was arriving as I got to the station & I had no time to wait for the next 1 so had to buy it on the train. I'd paid £65 for a return ticket from Liverpool to London 2 or 3 weeks earlier

Once caught a train from Norwich to Birmingham...

Was going to catch one which meant one change but this was no big issue.

Got to the station early and found there was a direct train leaving a few minutes earlier so decided to catch that one instead.

Stopped outside Ely for half an hour due to points failure.

Very slow around Melton Mowbury due to sheep on the line.

Train now so late they decided to terminate it at a small station near Leicester which meant everyone off and onto the platform to wait for the next one.

Next train to arrive was a single carriage thing on to which 4 carriages worth of people had to cram into.

Arrived in Birmingham about 2 hours late in all, starving and thirsty as none of the trains had any type of buffet or refreshments available.

I think anywhere in England to Aberdeen takes a day. I went from Rugby to Aberdeen on the day of the first volcano thing, it was in 3 steps. First Rugby to Birmingham, not too bad as it was one of those commuter trains, a bit slow but nothing too bad, just stick the iPod on and relax for the 45 mins. Then an hours wait in Birmingham, feel a little peckish, £5 for a dismal sized cornish pasty and a bottle of coke! At least WH Smith charge the regular price for autosport, something to read if the iPod and laptop both die. Onto one of those big Virgin trains, 4 hours from Birmingham to Edinburgh, starts off OK, I find a seat with some decent sized legroom and a plug socket, means I'm not going to lose my laptop battery. Next station, I get a family with small children sit right in front of me. For the next hour, screaming kids non stop. Then they get off, total bliss for the rest of the journey to Edinburgh. 20 minute wait at Edinburgh station, then a commuter train to Aberdeen, which is scheduled to take almost as long as the previous train which came from Birmingham! Its very busy, and I don't get a seat till past Arbroath. Finally get to sit down, OK until the next station. More screaming kids get on. I'm about ready for my head to explode when we finally reach Aberdeen, 10 hours after I set off. I'll be happy never to see another train again.

I've sat in traffic for a lot longer than I have on delayed trains.

As in your experience, sometimes there are problems with trains but mostly I find they're more predictable than car journey times, especially on unfamiliar routes.

Being with the general public can be difficult, especially if you're not used to it, but the quiet carriage on trains helps a lot with this, I find.

Many years ago did Aberdeen->Newquay. All went well.

Return journey didn't go so well. Had 3 connections lined up, but the train from Newquay to Par missed the connection - so had a 600 mile, 4 train rearranged journey over 18 hours..

My worst train journey was on the London Underground. I got on, couldn't get a seat, and had to stand for nearly 8 minutes.

The other three times I've caught a train I could sit down wink

Good ranting, loving that. biggrin

Don't do trains lately - they're boring imho.

Taking tube in Paris last year was hateful at times, smelly tramp got on behind me. Had to literally hold my breath under a scarf. Packed like a tin of sardines at times, not pleasant.

Why didn't you take the Jubilee line to London Bridge? Much easier.

Last year delayed and cancelled trains when added up made me a total of 2 weeks late! That's 2 weeks of my life cursing public transport etc.

To be fair to train companies the longest delays were caused by vandalism and people commiting suicide.

I use trains for 2-3 hours journeys about twice a week. So the liklihood of delay is high!

Oxenholme -> Glasgow -> Balloch.

Oxenholme -> Glasgow was fairly typical.

Glasgow -> Balloch initially put me on edge, and ended up in a brief first fight with some chav trying to steal my mates bag when he found out we were English paperbag

Don't get me started on trains. It would be cheaper for me to drive Luton to London than my £300 my ticket costs.
