Off in a couple of weeks with the gf for 4 days. smile

Decided on the Eurostar as oppose to flying as it takes you bang in the centre, plus you can avoid the mission of getting to the airport and checking in. Was quite a bit more expensive than I expected!

Never been before - any advice on what is good to see/worthwhile spending time over and anything to avoid?

I hear the French are quite arrogant with regards to the English trying to speak French and will only address you in English (not that I'm bothered).

Hints/advice welcome as always smile

Here's a thread I posted before going for 4 days with my gf in September.

I think you should find it pretty relevant. There's some decent and reasonably priced hotels in Paris if you do enough searching on the 'net, and most usually have some form of offer running.

It's easy enough to get around on the metro and on foot. Taxis are expensive, slow and quite frankly dangerous!

We stayed in the Gare De L'est, not the best area to be honest. Be careful at night, there's some less than savoury characters around.

A boat trip down the Seine is slightly cheesy, but a must! It's reasonably cheap and picturesque.

Your other half may well want to do some shopping down the Champs Elysee, good fun for supercar spotting anyway and you get to see the Arc D'Triomphe.

Food expensive, but bloody gorgeous. Alcohol stupidly priced. Fags same as here.

There's some good museums such as D'Orsay etc. Worth a look, but as with everything in Paris, pricey.

A lot of bad things are said about Paris, but I loved it and as long as you take plenty of cash there's a hell of a lot to do. I can't wait to go back.

Enjoy your trip!

You must try to speak French if you can. It is really embarrassing hearing British people in France making no attempt to speak the language. The waiters don't mind bad French like mine and may well reply to you in English - not because they are being arrogant but because they can and to help you.
