Chaps,

I am off the the Lake District at the start of August with a few mates,

Are there any recommendations on things to do etc?

Fair enough, but I'm afraid that's the limit of any help I can givebiggrin

The Hardnott Pass is worth the drive though.

You'll get more specific advice if you say where you will be staying, as the Lake District is quite large. Perhaps ask the organiser the name of the nearest town/village?

You could hire mountain bikes at Grizedale Forest, it is a Forestry commission centre near Hawkshead, there are set out biking routes for various levels of fitness and a bike shop that does hire.

If you are up for clay shooting / quad biking / archery etc there is a place just out of the national park called Holmescales. It is an activity centre that does stag do's, corporate hospitality etc, if there are a few of you it may work out economic. I went there for my stag do and it cost about £60 a head for two activities (quad biking and clay shooting).

If you are not really into walking there are pub walks, which will give you a short route with pub stops on route.

O/T, but I saw one of the beers with your photo on recently Steve. Someone bought it as part of a present for my stepdad's 60th, he was standing there saying what a nice ale it was and when he showed me the bottle I nearly fell over. it looks great on the bottles.
