Few days in Edinburgh. Talk to me people..
Discussion
OH and I are visiting Edinburgh in August. Both been before and enjoyed what we saw at the time, looking for something different and interesting for this visit.
Festival is on when we go, so will be taking in a bit of that whilst we are there, but best tips are from personal experience, so learned chasps and chaspesses of PH, give us some pointers please!
Thanks in advance.

If you really have to ask for advice on how to amuse yourself in Edinburgh during the festival then it's probably best you don't go.
Just go to as much as you can, try new things and new places, climb Arthurs Seat when you've had enough of sitting inside and have an ace time!
It's not a big city: part of the fun of Edinburgh is discovering weird things and new acts for yourself, IMO.

Obviously going for the festival and all it entails, just looking for any personal pointers on hiddens gems of the city to take in whilst we are there as an aside of the entertainments.

I quite enjoyed matching up the places I was with locations in the Inspector Rebus novels when I was in Edin last year:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_2_10?url=...
But then I quite like the 'darker', more medieval side of Edin, which might be less of your bag.

We saw a piece on tv featuring Ian as he walked through a few places featured, good call!http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_2_10?url=...

Take a walk along the Water of Leith, then head to the Botanic Gardens, the best burgers are at the Cambridge. Dean Gallery and Modern Art galleries are cool.
The place becomnes 24 hour in the Festival, and is both fantastic and draining.
Am dram students pushing flyers in your face the whole time, just don't hold out your hand. Ever.
Oh and the Soweto Gospel Choir is an absolute must do.
i'll think of more...what sort of stuff are you in to?

Take a 43 bus out to South Queensferry, have a walk about the historic High Street and have a nice lunch with of view of the Forth Road Bride and Forth Rail Bridge.
I'm biased though.... lived there for 4 years
An earlier post said La Monde was nice - it is, but a high percentage of the weekend crowd are very pretentious...

Also if you like tapas then you should try upstairs at Barioja on Jeffrey St (a couple of mins from Waverley station). If you're splashing out then The Witchery is fab.
We are relocating to Edinburgh this summer (and looking forward to it)! Hope you have a good trip!
