Hi Guys,

Hoping someone can help with some London knowledge! After a day of fun at Thorpe park a group of us are planning on heading into London for food and drinks from Shepperton (where we're staying). So, please can people suggest areas in or around the capital that are easy to reach from Shepperton (using trains / buses) with a bit of nightlife before we resign ourselves to an evening in....

Staines yikes

Its about an hour into Waterloo from Shepperton. No idea how frequent the trains are though or how late they run.

Failing that, Kingston might be worth a punt though I've not been out there so I can;t vouch for it.

Richmond might be worth a punt as its only about 6 stops from Shepperton and if all else fails you can always split a cab 5 ways to get home.

Shepperton is Staines way isn't it?

You're into Clapham/Waterloo from there so you have all of London pretty much within reach.

Unless you really want to go into Central London then I'd go with Kingston, as said before it is not too far from Shepperton, plenty of pubs, bars, restaurants and a couple of nightclubs if your inclined.

Thanks guys, i'll look into Kingston and Richmond more closely. They'd be much easier than Central London and having to worry about tube / train and bus times!

Appreciated thumbup

Depends what you are really after.

Central Kingston can be a bit minging at night. Unless you go to a nice restuarant

I think the Shepperton Line only goes into Waterloo via Wimbledon and not Richmond, so if you want Richmond you'll have to swap at Teddington.

Wimbledon village up the hill from the station is nice for a drink and a bite to eat.

Richmond is probably the best option of the lot tbh, there are couple of nice pubs round the green, and there are also a few independant nice eateries along with a few upper market chains in the high st.

I would second Wimbledon Village and if you stop in Kingston, there is a great down to earth French place on the river by the town side of the bridge called Frere Jacque. Very French and reasonable, for London.

Also I think Shepperton must be up the line from Teddington so a trip to Teddington Lock and a visit to the Anglers pub on the banks of the Thames must be in order. Go at the weekend and there is normally a BBQ and a Hog roast and you are right next to Teddington Studios and the home of PH.

Avoid Staines, it's a dung hole.

Go to Waterloo and you have the South Bank, Coin Street, Borough etc within minutes. Or get a cab, or walk, into Covent Garden or Soho. bks to Kingston, Richmond or Wimbledon I say.

Try a proper black cab. Ask the driver how much for a tour of the main places of interest and good places to eat. We have always had good experiences using proper London Taxis. These guys have the `knowledge` so London map is stored in their brain. Also know from customers were the good places are to eat and places to avoid.

Twickenham/Kingston/Richmond are all good from Shepperton.
Decent night out and cab ride away.
London is a bit of a pain from there as its likely to be an hour each way and that's just to waterloo where you don't neccesarily want to be!
