I'm in need of a holiday but need some inspiration on destinations.

I like the idea of just booking a flight somewhere, renting a car/4x4 and taking each day as it comes with no fixed destinations/hotel bookings. I've a similar thing by motorbike before and it's worked well.

I've travelled quite a bit in Europe and would prefer to try something a bit different. South America maybe?

Budget is £3-4k for 2 people (~14days).

Any suggestions?

Laos is meant to be an amazing place on a bike, especially the north. Flying into Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur is cheap enough and it's within easy reach. I would be impressed if you got through £3-4k in that region too hehe

Have a look on www.advrider.com too - the Ride Reports section on there has reports from trips across the world! Mexico and South America seem to be very well covered smile

Wow!

Some great stories on that forum. I like the guy who went from Sydney to London on a moped. Inspirational stuff

I regularly lose a few hours on that site. Nathan's trip is still my favourite though. This trip runs it close too, an Estonian couple going across the world for 1000 days - http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48...

That'd be my choice.

Fly to San Fran, bit of time there, then Napa, Tahoe, & Yosemite. Maybe Sequoia if you have time.
