Wait a sec. That's not €520 per week for a year, but just for the week you're there? It's expensive, granted.

I seriously struggle to understand why anyone would buy a timeshare.

It can make sense. The one we bought made sense (cheapish quality holidays if you have a family) but lifestyle changes (namely, she left me hehe ) dictated otherwise.

I don't see why people bother either. A mate has one. £10k invested years ago and an ongoing £200 a year commitment for two weeks accomodation in Spain a year.

To put it into perspective, I pay £27 a night to stay at a 1 bedroom 2 year old luxury apartment with 3 balconies in Turkey at the drop of an email. No commitment. No contract. No 10k tied up.

£27 a night is £378 a fortnight. I had a week at a 3 bedroom apartment in Florida for about £10k and £300 a year that I could "swap" for anywhere of similar size in the world on the scheme (a crazily large number of destinations) for a minimal fee. As I say, it can work out very well for families of 2+ children.

They belonged to a larger scheme; in the end we went on a few European ones and, just being a couple, had too much space. I suppose we could have rotated bedrooms. Or had a few arguments so we had a reason to sleep in different rooms. hehe
