We're travelling to Brittany on Sunday, and we plan to break up the journey with an overnight around the Caen area. I'm thinking along the lines of a Travelodge. i.e. basic, but clean and cheap!

Any ideas or recommendations?

I'd use

http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotels-g187182-Caen_B...

Better than a completely blind choice.

My first recommendation would be www.Campanile.com - no frills chain, but with enough.

Others in the cheap range, but perfectly fine are www.villages-hotel.com and www.hotelformule1.com

After years of using Campanile quite happily after a couple of dodgy experiences with them, that if I'd bothered to read tripadvisor would have been quite predictable, I've half converted to Kyriad hotels, very agreeably surprised.

The Kyriad in Caen centre is rated No 2 on tripadvisor out of all Caen hotels. That would be the one I'd have first punt at tbh.

Thanks for all the replies so far.
Does anyone know Caen at all?
I'm erring on the side of simplicity and as our route takes us around the South of the city, I'm thinking that we should just book one that is on the ringroad.
We're not likely to be doing any exploring etc., just looking for somewhere to grab a quick bite to eat and get our heads down for the night. But, if we head for the centre, is it easy to navigate, reasonably pleasant etc?

The one I suggested might be not that easy to find without a satnav. Search on hotels in Ifs which is right on the southern peripherique?

In fact there is another one of the same chain round there though going to France and ending up eating in Maccy D's isn't my idea of fun tbh.

What about the Ibis Port de Bretagne?

Which is what we have now done... Thanks for the suggestion. It looks great.
