Hi all,

Anyone seen whale sharks in the maldives? If so, which resort(s) were you staying at and time of year? We're looking for a holiday either late August or mid October but want to try to combine it with snorkelling/diving with whalesharks so just trying to find out best options. I've heard Reethi beach is one or Sun Island...

Many thanks! smile

We stayed at Veligandu - and a whale shark was seen the week before we were there (late Nov)

Why do people insist on swimming with the wildlife? We went on a dolphin safari once and frankly, it was cringeworthy all these ruddy tourists jumping in the water - no wonder the dolphins p*ssed off. wink

You want to go to the Southern tip of the South Ari Atoll. That's probably the best place to see them. There's quite a few resorts to choose from.

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like October now (long-drawn out house move means August not feasible) so will research into the islands in South Ari.

There is an irony in your post you'll work out yourself eventually.

If you really want to swim with Whale Sharks, go to the Seychelles, there's a conservtion place there that will take you out to snorkel with them. As they only go out when the sharks have been seen, you'll need to ring them each day, but when I went we saw four, ranging from 4m to 7m.

Amazing.
