I'm off to France (Bordeaux) for a week in September where my folks live and I have persuaded Nanny that she wants to spend some quality time with her 9 month old granddaughter.

That means I have a few days to spend somewhere nice with the Mrs sans child. I’m happy to drive up to 4 hours from Bordeaux but want real luxury as it’s not often that me & the Mrs get to spend time alone.

I looked at the Hotel de Citie, (www.hoteldelacite.com) Carcassonne but the Trip advisor reviews report that it's tired and has crap air con.

So, can anyone please recommend anywhere?

I stayed here a few years ago. Colliure is a short walk around a well paved coastal path if you want a change from the hotel restaurant.

Never, ever read the negative reviews on tripadvisor, unless the hotel has a majority of negative reviews. Tripadvisor is overun by absurd Americans who complain about everything down to the colour of the sand on the beach.

Massive thanks again for the recomendations - they must be VERY good, as they're all bloody full on the dates I want to go!

In the end booked www.lebeaumanoir.com just outside Biarritz, I will report back once we get back in Sept.
