Red Sea (Not sharm)
Discussion
I have travelled to most parts of Egypt so know it well.
El Gouna & Hurghada are lovely.
Typical Red Sea destinations for diving etc but less of the British tourist feel (many Egyptians take their own holidays in these areas). Although it is still quite a trek, the Nile regions are accessable from here should you wish to take a trip there.
Personally, I think Taba is a bit far out. Whilst the resorts are pleasant there is little to do outside of them.

Taba Heights is also a bit of a captive market. When I went a few years ago all the bars were in the hotels so drinks prices were quite high. Also, as previously said, there isn't much to do, there is a diving centre though which kept me busy.

El Gouna is ok,Hurghada is a bit of a hole IMO,but Safaga and Soma Bay are only 40 minutes further south
and are lovely, but as previous poster says a bit remote. As are many of the Egyptian Red Sea resorts.
Still a bit of a long slog to Cairo (though you can fly) and Luxor (probably overnight).Best bet is find a hotel with good beach,
house reef for snorkelling, more than one restaurant and good reports on TripAdvisor!
Egyptian hotels are fairly generously classified,so 5* = 4* etc.

We spent a week in Taba at the Hilton. It's a nice enough hotel but there's nothing much to do in the area as I recall. Fine if you just want to laze around all day catching rays all inclusively for a week though
I'm talking out of my hat - it was Nuweiba we stayed at.
We are looking for a week of guaranteed sun for 2 people for about 600 quid each. These places look to fit the bill. I spent a week at Hilton Sharks Bay a while ago although was ok Sharm / Narma bay was not our cup of tea.
