European Road Trip - France/Belgium/Lux/Germany

Driving over to Germany in a few weeks for the WRC in Trier and F1 GP at Spa. I'll be in Trier for a week or so and have been looking at the maps for familiar names and places. These would include Bastogne and Nurburg.

Can anyone recommend any other places within a sensible radius of Trier worth a day visit please?
Also, any WW1/2 memorials/cemeteries near the main routes down to Trier and along the Northern coast of France/Belgium between Calais and Ostend?
