Guys

heading to croatia at the beginning of september. plan is to fly to split and then head over to hvar for a few nights (already sorted accomodation here). The night before we fly home, we're going to spend in either Trogir or Split (both equidistant from the airport i believe). Trogir seems the more interesting/lively choice but would be interested if anyone could shares their thoughts on this, and recommend a decent place to stay for just the one night

Hvar is great, very nice, great view of the marina / town from the fort, some seriously tasty boats usually moored up.

Split is ok, depends on what your looking for, in terms of the old town, it is much smaller than the maps imply, you can wander round it in an afternoon. Spent a day there and even including a walk to the old naval section had plenty of free time. No idea about night life though.

I can't comment on Trogir though.

Stayed in Trogir 3 years ago. Quite a quaint little place, not many good food places, but I am sure you can find one. The streets are very cool, narrow and lots of alleys which are very safe. Was very hot when we went. We took the bus to Split which went right past the airport. I preferred Trogir to Split, but there is not much too choose between them

its literally going to be a last day/night stopover before hitting the airport on the friday morning. we'll be heading over from Hvar on the thursday afternoon and literally just having a mooch around either Trogir/Split, grabbing a few beers and a nice meal

Trogir seems to be slightly closer to the airport, and be quite quaint which could be cool for a spot of evening wandering and chilling out with a few beers

went to both places last year. Trogir gets my vote. It's also next door to the airport.

oh, and if you want a chilled island - go to Vis. it was off-limits to visitors for 20years, and hasn't changed much. lots of old military installations still in situ.
