We booked flights to Spain a couple of months ago at a cost of £440, and just tried to change the departure airport. They want another £320 in 'change fees'! They also want to charge an extra £6 for each flight per person (as 'thats what their system says'), despite the fact that the flights are available cheaper on their website for a new booking. Writing off the original payment, and buying completely new flights at £315 online seems the best option.

I know I chose to book with them originally as they were the only ones flying to Murcia/ Alicante, but that doesn't stop me thinking...

Hang on.

You booked cheap flights which mean you can't suddenly change the airport you're flying from. Now you want to change where you're flying from, and you're moaning because you have to pay!

Sorry, if you want flexible flights, pay a flexible fare!

Do you know how much flexible fares cost? Log on to BA's website and book a flexible ticket.

Now realise why you booked Ryanair.

Now realise that you're asking them to be flexible on a non-flexible ticket. Why should they - you bought many months ago because they are cheap. They are "cheap" for a reason.

This.

Why should you be allowed to change the airport (FFS!) you're flying from when you got a cheap deal?

You changed your requirements - totally your fault. Just stick to the original departure airport.

I did over 300 flights with Ryanair in 2 years. I was never late and was always treated as I would expect to be. The average for these flights, £10 each including taxes. There are tricks to flying low cost, no luggage, no changes, book early. Treat it like a bus.

yes

OP in thread not turning out as expected shocker. It's an entirely new flight booking at the cheapest budget airline on the planet.

Suck it up, buttercup.

Oddly, this has been the case for most airlines for - well, for ever.

Yip, entirely your fault. £760 wouldn't get you one fully-flexible ticket with a full-service airline.

You pay your money, and you take your choice.

You want to change the departure airport? How many full-price airlines would allow this?

I have never, in my entire life, written '+1' or 'this' after a post, and I certainly do not intend to start now. But by God, I'm close to it. Try the same trick on a full service airline even, and see how far you get - you are trying to book a completely different flight.

Your thread title is accurate, but not for the reasons you have given.

I'm still here biggrin

Surprised anyone else actually cares enough to have responded to this extent about a bit of an ad hoc little whinge. PH does make me grin on a daily basis with threads like this attracting such interest hehehehe

I didn't book because it was cheaper, I booked because I had no realistically decent option for where I am flying to. I too can't stand Ryan Air type policies, and would have paid more if I could have gone with someone else. Just a bit of a rant really because their customer service people seemed to be robotic morons who could do nothing but read a screen. As it has been pointed out many times, they are not exactly cheap once you add all the fees and extras, and it's totally my fault for booking with them.

I was over it within in a couple of minutes, with the realisation that buying new tickets on another airline from London was much easier than a 800 mile round trip to have to fly on the original booking.

It did make me laugh that the Ryan Air 'customer service' number was 10p a minute, but 'premium answering for customer service' was £1.00 a minute. O'Leary isn't rolling in cash for no reason rofl

Precisely.
Low cost airlines are by far the cheapest form of transport if you play them at their own game. Lowest fare i've had has been dublin to bristol return for €12 all in, unfathomable 20/30/40 years ago to imagine an airfare that low.
Its often cheaper to just drop the original booking and rebook than to change flight details.

What exactly would you have them do?

Apart from meet your ridiculously high and unrealistic expectations to go totally against their stated policy just for you?

You ticked a box when you booked to say you had read and understood the terms and conditions of the booking. That was clearly a lie, but some poorly paid, overworked soul in their call centre is a robotic moron?

Grow up, you arse!

Calm down dear.

I tried to pay them, based on the flight costs they had advertised, as I had read the terms. Unfortunately, the woman on the phone couldn't get her system to bring up the upgrade prices. It's not my fault, and I definitely didn't start to lay blame on her directly.
