I am due to be flying out in the next few days for work. I am however wondering what is considered as appropriate clothing? It's an average high of 45 degree's this time of year so I don't fancy having to walk about covered head to toe. Is it okay to wear shorts and t-shirt?

Is there anything else I should know before going? I believe it is also Ramadhan too.

Cheers,
Jamie

Depends what kind of work? Building site or a meeting in a bank?

Sorry, should have said. I will be working at Dolphin Energy's site as a Calibration Engineer so I'll have to wear full PPE when working.

I am more curious as to what I can wear outwith working hours?

Shorts might be OK on site, but not elsewhere apart from in the hotel's casual areas or when strolling along the prom. Otherwise long trousers/slacks are best. A T shirt is fine most places but dress better for dinner etc.

Remember it is Ramadan, no eating or drinking in daylight hours (at least where anyone fasting can see you. I'm not sure of the seriousness in Qatar, but you can be arrested in other places out there.

Qatar is one of the more relaxed places in the ME - they accept women more readily on a business front for example than a lot of the other states. Show respect to the locals with your dress and you'll be fine. Long trousers will be better than shorts, and tailored shirts for the evening for example, but a nice T shirt will also be ok in all but the smartest of hotels and restaurants.

Bare shoulders don't go down so well, but equally nobody will arrest you for it, you'll just get marked down, iyswim.
