Not sure if this is the right part of the forum, but it seems alot more appropriate than the lounge.

For a long while I've wanted to learn Spanish and have tried various podcasts/ books/ software (got bored and given up). I have however recently been given a copy of Rosetta Stone Spanish (mates old employer bought it for him, he never even opened it, left employment and they never asked for it back!).

I have zoomed through the first couple of units in level 1 and on one hand think its brilliant however to some extent found it a bit easy (I'm no language expert - I only speak English). My thoughts on it being easy are that alot of it is multiple choice and I wonder whether it really does sink in? I don't expect to be anywhere near fluent just able to understand enough to get me by.

I thought I would just see if anyone in the PH collective has used RS and whether it’s a case that it starts easy but then gets harder? and that it does sink in or any other general thoughts

I'm using RS to learn French.

I was surpised how much I understood when I was in Brittany a couple of months ago.

So you would say its sinking in? What level are you up to on it? Did you realise how much you knew before you went to France?

I'm in Spain a couple of weeks time therefore hoping if I can get level 1 complete then I should notice some level of comprehension.

Can't remember what level I'm on but it's very early on. The last time I did French was at school nearly 30 years ago so I was surprised how much I could understand in such a short time.

What is also interesting is once you've got a basic understanding of the language you pick up a lot more of what's going on/being said than you'd imagine.

I live in Spain and had classes, but have a friend who uses RS and can understand a lot, but not speak too much. It is very good, but as i see more people learning the language, the experience of intercambio's (language exchange) seems to work very well in conjunction with RS.
