After many city breaks and cultural weekends away, the other half has stated that she wants to do a 'luxury holiday'.

By this, I think she means a 4* hotel, all inclusive, on a beautiful beach, ideally more than a couple of hours flight away.

This is completely out of my comfort zone as it isn't really what I usually go for. Although a did a week all inclusive at Sharm a couple of years ago.

So basically, it is a total blank canvas. Open to suggestions. Any recommendations / places to avoid? We will be going in March 2011 and the budget will ideally be under £1000 each for 7 days.

Try Thomson, they do their own Luxury holiday packages. You can tailor some of them to suit too. Sensatori, i believe, is what they call it?

This company does true luxury holidays, you may need to stretch your budget and settle for a shorter break, but it will defiantly be a step above anything that Thompson's can offer.

We can tick off a great many of the places in www.prestigeholidays.co.uk and have never, ever, had a bad experience.

Would recommend Dominican Republic, Iberostar.

Again Dominican Republic but a secluded island in Samana
Gran Bahia Principe

Both are gorgeous hotels. Havent been to the Iberostar for years but will always remember it being such a beautiful hotel and great all inclusive, not sure if its a 4 or 5 star.
Iberostar is in the middle of nowhere though and its recommended not to leave the hotel but tbh you wouldnt really need to. 5 restaurants all with good food and drink included and right on the beach front.

Gran Bahia has 4 restaurants (if i remember rightly), right on the beach front (surrounded by beach as its a seperate small island) I was told its where the Barcardi adverts were filmed and is nicknamed Barcardi island.
My friends got married there a few years ago. Beautiful.

Or Jamaica!! Gran Bahia Principe

Beautiful place with lots around to do trips wise. The pool attendants do like to ask you if you want to buy weed a lot though, good if ya like the stuff.

3 of my most memorable hotels for luxurious holidays!

Many all-inclusive's in Europe are not quite what you might expect from an all-inclusive. You don't give a budget but try the Couples resorts in Jamaica or Crystal Cove in St James, Barbados. Both excellent and with the Couples resorts...no ankle biters to ruin your day! Both have premium brands (mostly) and superb food.
