Folks - has anyone attempted to travel from Barcelona to Circuit de Catalunya for the F1 (or any other race) by public transport.

I am organising a stag weekend, and this is an option. Weekend in Barcelona, taking in the F1 on the Sunday, but as we will all be drinking, we need to travel by public transport/cab to and from the circuit. Web site says a train and then a 30 min walk. Any idea whether cabs/buses from the station is an option? Or another way from Barca.

What about getting tickets? I am hoping that getting in early, I should be ok, any idea?

Any suggestions on hotels in Barca would be great too. Close ish to the centre of bars etc, nothing too fancy, will be on a bit of a budget. Is it realistic to get a hotel with a pool for some sun?

I've never been to the circuit, but have stayed in a crappy little Ibis hotel overlooking it. If memory serves me right the nearest train station to the circuit is Montmelo, can't remember how long the train journey is from Barcelona but it's not terribly long. Train goes from the Airport through both Sants and PSG and onto Montmelo. Very very simple and pretty cheap too if I recall.

Once in Montmelo it is a fair walk to the circuit, but it is a pretty simple route so getting lost shouldn't be an issue. Montmelo is a tiny little town, the station had space for one taxi outside and I didn't even see one for the 6 days I was there. But I would have thought during the GP there would be plenty.

There is a bus that heads in the direction of the circuit from the station, but I recall the times being a bit iffy. Again I would have thought during the GP they would be more frequent.

If I was you I'd get train from Barca>Montmelo and then either hope for a taxi, or if worst comes to worst, walk.

I did the Spanish GP a couple of years ago, we actually took a taxi from the city centre which cost 45 euro ish. Between 4 of us it was a damn site easier than messing about with public transport and we caught the train back from Montmelo which was a 20 minute walk from the circuit. Be prepared for it to be crammed though, not fun.

I would say take a taxi at around €50. We have an office close to the circuit and have been there many times (staying in Granollers). Always took a taxi from Barcelona airport, about a 40 minute ride.

I have done the train - walk route, train is fine but its a good 30 - 45 minute walk depending upon where in the circuit you are, not fun when its red hot, no taxis at the station, they should run a shuttle bus but dont.

Last time we went we got a taxi from the centre not cheap but a lot easier.

Thanks for the replies guys. Looks like cab would be best option.

Any suggestions on Barca hotels?

I live in Barca and stayed many times in the Gran Torre Cataluyna (80euro per night) This is also right next to Sants station and very close to Placa Espagne Other options if it's a stag do are Casanova hotel which is on the corner of Gran Vi and casanova. This was 80 euro a night for a twin room in March. You can probably also do a search and find your own. If you do, drop me a mail with the road/area it's on and I can let you know whether it is close to the stations/nighlife/sights

Thanks for the offer TJK, might just take you up on that. Its a big city, knowing where is good/bad would really help.

Does anyone have any idea on ticket prices for this GP? Probably just race day, in a stand.
