A couple of days in Bruges
Discussion
For my 30th my wife has booked up two days in Bruges on 20th October staying in the kempinski hotel. Is there anything that anyone recommends to see or do when out there. I would particularly like some restaurant recommendations nothing too poncy but something on the special side.
Cheers

www.souffleur.be is nice and I've heard good things about This place http://www.hobbitgrill.be/ which has a nice bar opposite.

Are you sure you didn't grow up on a farm because you are, in fact, retarded?Just asked some Flemish colleagues about the two USEFUL recommendations, above, and they get the
There are plenty of nice cafes & restaurants in the main square. Some are quite pricey, though they have a great atmosphere.
Horse & Carriage rides seem to be popular, not a personal interest though.
Plenty of chocolate shops, made to order also.
I grew up in the countryside, therefore, I'm retarded. Please ignore my suggestion.

Oh, yes ... Belgian strawberries (must be from Hoogstraten, mind!) covered in chocolate!

No you're not. Good suggestions, there. Thanks for the suggestions. I was aware of the risks involved in posting something Bruges related and getting a few 'in bruges' quotes.
I have seen that restaurant pop up on a web search but there seems to be a lack of info about dinning in Bruges. Is it because it is all mussels and Stella?

As I'm a retarded yokel I think Bruges is great.
We went last year as a trip with work (three coach loads of us), many of the bods hadn't been before, and everybody said how much they liked the place. Several have been back since.
Bruges has my favourite Bar in the world in it. Face North in the main square (Markt) with the Town Hall on your right, go down the road in the far right hand corner along the side of the Town Hall. Past the Bier Temple, then the church, Bar Cambrinus is next, on the left hand side of the road. The Beer list is brought to you on a wooden support tray, and is as thick as a telephone directory. It has all the beers they sell in it, described in four langauges (IIRC), if you drank three different beers a day, you'd be in there for a good three months before you got near the end.
Lots of locals eat in there too.
Enjoy the place, and a trip on the canal boats is good.

Don't eat/drink on the main square unless you are prepared to pay for it (except for the frites vendors - best chips known to man :-) )
The Park Restaurant was very good and pretty reasonable http://www.parkrestaurant.be/index_en.htm
You can learn a lot about the place on the canal boat trip - might be a bit chilly in October though!

I stayed in the same hotel a few weeks ago for my mate's 30th, we took the girls over obviously, and had a superb time. The hotel was great. Watch what you're drinking, a lot of the lagers over there are 7.5-8.5% (and utterly sublime) so it's easy to have a lot more than you think you've had. At least thats how I explained my state to the wife the following day.Cheers
