Mexico beaches/resorts? Which one??
Discussion
So heading down to Mexico City next spring and after that want to do a week's R&R in one of the better resorts (i.e not Acapulco etc) with entire family.
So any recommendations for any nice resorts on a beach ?? Seems all the bright young things from the US head to Cabo San Lucas - what about that or Puerto Vallarta or even Cancun??
Not done any beaches there so need some suggestions - is East/Caribbean coast better - or West coast??
Thanks!

Avoid Cancun at the mo. Not because it is full of Brits, but because it is in the middle of drug warfare between armed cartels at the moment.
That's completely over the top. There was one small explosion in a small strip bar in Cancun old town a few weeks ago. Have many tourists been hurt or injured during this "drug warfare"?
Spent five days here this summer, about 30 mins from Cancun airport and 10 miles north of Cancun itself (but a world away):

Admittedly not a great deal here other than a hotel / spa / beach, but we thought it was amazing value (five star service at three star prices) as we found a great rate on hotels.com.
If you want a week just to relax on a beach and eat great food, drink reasonably-priced beach front drinks, take a trip to an amazing spa, snorkel and use the hotel jet skis and just spend time in a fantastic hotel (our room, the cheapest they offer was 90 m2 !) then this is the place.
I'd recommend a trip to Isla Mujeres for the day as well (hire a golf buggy and drove round), 10 mins in a cab to the port then 25 mins on the catamaran.

We stayed at the Moon Palace in Cancun a few years ago. It is slightly out of town and has it's own private location (which sounds ideal if any of the above comments are true), and its big enough, with plenty of buffet and ala carte restaurants that you wouldn't need to venture far for anything apart from daytrips which pick up at the resort anyway.
Might be worth a look..
