Fastnet Line Swansea to Cork.

Anyone else used this? I used ti to get back from Ireland when Volcanoe was spuing (remember that!) and using it this week to visit a client for a couple of days, takin own car to save the horrific taxi costs in Ireland!
It's an old ship from Norway or somewhere like that, and crewed by Polish staff who were excellent last time.
Taking the car and with a decent cabin is not really any cheaper than flying, unless you have lots of notcie and go Ryanair. But it seems so much more relaxed, leave sport at 9pm, decent kip on the boat I hope, arrive each end at 8am ish. I find flights are either a mad dash leaving home at 4am, or go the night before and then just sleep in airport hotel in Ireland. So boat seems a decent idea.
Not the best advertised service but worth considering if going to the South of Ireland.

It is quicker, but to arrive at a client in Cork for 9am, either means leaving Hollyhead port at like 5am, which means a dead early start from home, or go the night before and stay the other end.
The 11hour overnight seems like a good idea as you check in to your hotel in Swansea and when you wake up its in Cork!
I will leave home at about 5.30pm, its 2 hours or so to Swanseae, few drinks and some dinner, and wake up there!
I'll report back on my findings, knowing my luck we will break down en route, or hit an iceberg or something!

This is one of those ferry routes which never seems to make any money, I've heard, but somebody will always take it over and give it another shot. Not one I've tried; did Pembroke-Rosslare and drove down to Cork, but that does take a while in the car (both in Wales and Eire), so I'd definitely use the Swansea-Cork route when going back.
I can report it is a great service. The timing is near perfect for it, and get to Cork from Central UK with only about 150 miles driven.
Off season, so not that busy, restaurant on board did decent food but not brilliant. But it just works and well worth the consideration if you are just over for a few days of work and need a car whilst here.
