Looking for opinions, for a trip to NYC should I consider a visit in (late) October or am I better off waiting for next summer? Thoughts centre on the trade-off between weather/temp and queues?

I'm planning on going w/c 25th Oct...

I've been to NY in mid November and was walking around in shirtsleeves it was so mild, but it could just as easily be bitterly cold or wet.

Having been there in August with my children, I'd prefer October vs. the stupidly high humidity!

I don't think i'd go to NYC in the summer if i had the chance! 30c, in the middle of a big city is something i'd rather avoid smile

October will be good, and at least you can go and watch decent sports games in the winter months (rather than baseball!).

Tends to be bright and sunny even late in the year. I've been in November. Buy a nice warm coat while you are there. Enjoy the sights and the cheesecake :-)

Have the days of cheap clothes/gadgets/food etc not gone now the pound v dollar ratio has closed?

Just curious as i'm visiting in Jan '11 and wondering whether to get saving for bits and bobs now, or buy in the Jan sales here?

It's not as good as it was but one or two bargains esp on electricals/electronics if you are not fussed about warranty.

This, whereas the shops/restaurants are air conditioned, subway is unbearable, the streets are hot and sweaty, lots of hot engines etc adding to it and little wind between the buildings.
