Hi All,

Anyone done this using public transport - I know a cab cost 80euros but don't fancy paying that!

I have looked online and seen various reports saying things like:
A) The train is around 5 euro whilst the 200 TAM bus is 1.30 euro. However the bus can take up to two hours - its painfully slow - whereas the train can take as little as twenty minutes, so unless time is literally money, the train is by far and away the best option.

B)The more rapid - Rapid Cote dAzur RCA coach. via the motorway is 12 euro but you won't get stuck in the awful traffic through Cannes.
You could leg it a half kilometre to the railway SNCF Nice St Augustin, wait a half hour for a train, and that should be around 5 euro to Cannes, if you can master the ticket machines - euro coins would be helpful - not notes - - it s not well staffed. Not for begginers.

Anyone on here done it?
Does the above sound correct.
Being Cannes and all I know I should turn up in a 612/599/DB9 or similar but can't be bothered to dust them off now that they are tucked up for the winter..

Seriously, look at helicopter transfer. From Nice to Monaco it's actually cheaper than a taxi.

I used to get the bus from the airport to Antibes regularly - no hassle.

Cannes is a bit further though so train might be a good idea. Haven't ever stopped at Cannes but used to take the train from St Raphael to Nice when I was based in St Tropez. Good service nothing to complain about.

There's a bus station just at the back of the airport. Buses to Cannes go every 1/2 hour, and the return trip cost is about 15 euros. It drops you right in the middle of town. Great service!

Another vote for the helicopter here, surprisingly cost effective when heading to Monaco, never used it for Cannes though.

They say the rain is 30mins walk:
Train
Even though the railway-line runs right past the airport there is no station at the airport. The nearest station St Laurent du Var is about a 30 minute walk from the airport. Be warned, stretches of the walk do not have proper pedestrian pathways. There are two trains an hour and it takes about half an hour. View directions from Nice airport to the nearest train station.

Does that sound right to you?
Including the walk 30mins +30mins journey +possible 30mins wait I am looking at 1 to 1,5 hours then - almost as bad as the bus but at least on the bus I don't have to walk 30mins in suit and get sweaty..

Those who went by taxi - how long was the journey? I guess that may be like asking how long is a piece of string though as traffic can be heavy depending on what's going on...we heading to Palais des Festivals.

The helicopter would be great (especially when I slip that receipt through on the expenses) but I do not see anything from Nice airport to Cannes - there is plenty of Cannes to Monaco and other places. You also need 5/6 passengers though. We are just 2.
Speedboat looks good to but again need to be a few more people...

I hired a citroen C1 from LOCAUTO.

they came and picked us up from the airport, gave us our car, and sent us on our way for a great price

you could walk to LOCAUTO, as they're really not very far from the airport

well.. thats my experience smile

Interesting - what sort of price? Always wanted a go in one of those...
The next thing is though - what is parking like in Cannes near the Palais - we are also seeing people at the Majestic Hotel so maybe they can valet park our C1 rental!

there's parking all over the place in caanes... people tend to just abandon their cars everywhere lol

we parked by the marina though on the street ( pay&display ) and then just walked about all over

food there is expensive... managed to pay 7 euro for a bloody salmon sandwich lol doh'

the rental price was for 5 days and was absolutely the cheapest price we could find at the time. about £110-£130 or so.

Update- despite the strikes we got there ok.
The trains and buses were not working so took a cab (a nice Merc R-Class, lovely ride...). Were in Cannes in 20mins as there was no traffic. 85 euros lighter.

They put on helicopters from Nice to Cannes when there are big shows on but it was 320 euros for 5 ppl, we were only 2. From Nice to Monaco they run a service every 15mins and costs just 100 euros per person.

The second cab I used in Cannes was VW Toureg...you almost don't mind high cab prices when the transport is decent (unlike Athens where you pay not much less but can end up in 10year old Toyota that reeks of cigarettes...).

An aside, the Toureg rattled allot and had covered 'only' 236,000kms...lovely ride though but a good old e-class does it better I think...

HeliAirMonaco is 55 Euros per person. They have scheduled times so you have to go when they go and they wait until there's 4 passengers. Takes 20 minutes.

Did you actually pay 55euro per person or did you pick up one of their booklets at the airport with the pricing?

I have the booklet that I got at the airport and it says 120 euro per person for Nice-Monaco.
For kids 2-12yrs it is 55 euros.
They told me the chopper leaves every 15 minutes - they did not say you have to wait until there are 4 ppl though.

The website seems to confirm the adult price but does not mention the kids price: http://www.heliairmonaco.com/page-regularschedules...

What's even cheaper than a taxi or the chopper is one way car hire wink I have hired a car in Monaco for a day and dropped it at Nice airport that evening...think it was 40 Euro's when I did it. There were three of us so that ruled the chopper out.

Yes - I've done this frequently (4 x adults) and it's always been around 55 euros each way.

Here's us leaving Nice airport earlier this year.
