New York..things to do....?...
Discussion
We are going to New York the week after next for five days, now I have got over the price of tickets and hotel my attention turns to maximising our activities.
Apart from the obvious, namely the Empire State, Statue of liberty and obviously 'Ground Zero'. Where else would the pistonheads travel nuts suggest we visit/do. We were there in 1998 and there was a spiffing museum on an aircraft carrier that was in the process of being built, has anyone been on it recently? I also in my earlier career worked for 6 months at the WTC so I think my visit may be a bit emotional.....
Thanks

Suggest booking a couple of days on the GrayLine open top bus tours.
Great way to see and learn about the city, plus with hopping on and off, you can use them as taxis.
Think we paid about $45 per 48 hour ticket a couple of weeks back.
And if you decide to visit the Empire State and Liberty / Ellis island, suggest getting there early - the queues can be 2-3 hours if you leave it much after mid-morning..

Helicopter flight if you can afford it was spectacular
Dont bother with the Statue of Liberty
Go to FAO Schwartz toy store (they have a keyboard you can walk on like Homer from the Simpsons) and alot of vintage toys
Walk about in Central Park
Natural History Museum
Grand Central Station visit and mooch about
ALSO see if you can find the fountain from the opening titles from Friends and have your picture taken!

Polite, then not so polite. My wife really is quite cynical about Pistonheads and it's usefullness. So I decided to demonstrate how usefull and friendly it can be by asking a reasonable question. So thanks MR/Mrs Puggit for your constructive comments. I have another thread running as well, maybe you can add something equally constructive on that one as well.
PS: Thanks for the other answers by the way......
Indeed - it was a polite hint to use the bl00dy search engine. This topic comes up at least once a week.

Not a lot to see at Ground Zero now there is half a building in it, but whilst there have a look at the memorial shop, Wall Street, and NYSE.
5th Avenue shops also. I though Times Square was a bit naff in a Piccadilly sort of way, but one of those things you just have to see.
Agreed, unless you have to see Ground Zero then i wouldnt bother, this is what was there 2 years ago so now it will have been built on a bit more5th Avenue shops also. I though Times Square was a bit naff in a Piccadilly sort of way, but one of those things you just have to see.

In battery park where you get the Liberty Island ferry you can see the globe from the lobby of WTC 1

Visit Dylans Candy Store on 3rd Avenue, out of this world and amazing ice cream parlour on the top floor.
For me just wandering around was good enough, trying to take it all in.

fecking PH where being a t

t matters".The search engine works brilliantly (on here and the internet). 3secs searching, a few hours reading and anyone can know more about what to do in NYC than a resident. It's the beauty of the internet. It doesn't need retyping. You can self serve

Teach a man to fish and all that.

There still isn't much to see and you can't really walk around it anymore, but it's worth a visit if you're in lower Manhattan. This is what it looked like a few weeks ago.
