The mrs and I have flown out to Mallorca on Ryan Air, I realise you "get what you pay for", but not too impressed to be honest.
We arrived at Stansted, got told by check in that we needed to pay for our bags first, and was sent away to a machine. Followed instructions to the letter, returned to check our bags, and got told that we had "underpaid" turns out, there are two weights you can check, and we checked the lower.
On the way back, we tried to check our bags in online, and we cannot do this either, as we have already printed our boarding cards before we travelled...
I realise that they are cheap, but they seem to be spending their whole time trying to screw more money out of you!

These, and many other reasons are why me & the o/h refuse to fly them anymore. Their business model suits a lot of people - that's why they're in business. It just doesn't suit me, so I pay the extra for a little less hassle on another airline. I think as time goes on, their business model will suit a lot less people.
I fly to Austria a bit and I used to go from stansted with ryan air as I they were the only ones going to the airport I wanted.
When I found out BA flew there but from gatwick I now go by them, yes the drive is 4 times longer but it's worth it
And you get to check in at a desk rather than in a converted aircraft hangar (in essence shut the doors and put some scaffold fencing up)

Are they really cheap ?In the 'real world' ?
Rather than the imaginery one, which consists of not taking any luggage, or parking your car at their end, or arriving somewhere that is actually miles from the 'real' destination name.
You very definately get what you pay for with Ryanair, but at least they keep the idiots away from the other airlines.
OP: The trip cost you £81, before you paid for your bags, etc.. What were you expecting?

I used Ryanair a bit in my last job, when I was travelling to Dublin every couple of weeks.
They were almost always much cheaper than Aer Lingus, mostly punctual and as I was only away for a day or two at a time, the luggage issue didn't affect me.
What did annoy me were the in-flight announcements for scratchcards and other rubbish.

They're only "punctual" because they allow 3 hours for a 1 hour flight! They were almost always much cheaper than Aer Lingus, mostly punctual and as I was only away for a day or two at a time, the luggage issue didn't affect me.

Arh top o de morn to you skwire
Ryan Air are regularly more expensive than airlines such as BA and Lufthansa when all charges are taken into account. They are a great marketing organisation targeting the naive traveller and are very successful in that market. Many don't even bother checking the prices of other airlines since they are 'convinced' that Ryan Air will be cheapest because someone 'told 'em so'. Little do they know.
Something else makes me laugh about these outfits is when their customers finally get on a proper flight, and being used to just plonking their backsides down in the first available seats, do exactly that audibly wondering why everybody is shuffling to the back and not sitting in these nice big seats up at the front.
Do they think the airlines print seat numbers just for the hell of it?
Maybe sometimes they get away with it, though I've never not seen them turfed out at some point.

If you treat it like a bus, it's fine. Hand luggage only, have a sandwich before you get to the airport etc.

Like some others have said I used them weekly to get back from Dublin when I was based there, never cost me more than £20 return. In two years I had one cancelled flight due to fog at Bristol,I was transferred to the next flight no problem.
You have my sympathy. I fly regularly with the likes of BA, BMI, etc., but when flying domestically (to a non-London airport) often need to slum it with the likes of Ryanair, Sleazyjet and Flymaybe.
The worst thing about Ryanair is when the trolly dolly does the safety briefing and says "to release your life jacket, simply insert a £2 coin beneath the seat in front of you...

so you cant follow simple instructions or read the website and you blame the airline. and you paid hardly anything for the flight....
Dont recall it saying anywhere on the website that you could not check in extra bags after printing boarding cards!Gassing Station | Holidays & Travel | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
