I was already aware of this type of theft. However despite this knowledge i still nearly fell fowl of it.
Shortly after stopping in a fuel station we had a blow out on the caravan, i pulled over onto the hard shoulder and started changing the wheel, then a spainish guy pulls in front, he was very insistant that my wife left the car and waved to traffic comming from behind. As soon as i shouted to her to lock the car he left!
Its at this stage they normally nick your bag, wallet etc
A few miles down the road we had another blowout, as luck would have it the spare from the wifes vw eos fitted.
One of the tyres was less than 3 months old and the other was original from when the van was new (3 years old)
Well im still in Spain and hope to remain here for at least a month.lovely and warm!

I hope the rest of your stay doesn't involve buying new tyres every few days

Yes, my mate was done this way. HIs miussus was well upset. They sprinkle things on the road to cause punctures but knwo where they are to avoid them themselves.

I've only skim-read this - so you were having a blow job in the caravan and the guy wanted your Mrs and you locked her in the car, you had another blow job and now you're two-tyred. wink

OP..Sorry to hear your story but glad it didnt end badly (apart from needing two new tyres)

Just back for a week in Marbella and yes it was lovely and warm.

Is this kind of issue only prevalent with English caravanners or anything with a English/ Foreign numberplate?
