Spending a week with a group of friends. We've all been to NYC several times before, so we will focus our holiday on the evening entertainment.

What are the hottest bars/clubs right now?
Can anyone get us in Soho House? I'm a member of Milk & Honey so happy to return the favour biggrin

In terms of restaurants, would like some suggestions for good (but not too uptight) steak houses in Manhattan; trendy Japs; modern cuisine & new concepts. Am I best booking tables through concierce services such as AmEx?

Peter Luger's in Brooklyn is a well known steak house and is well worth a visit - It's just over the bridge from the island so it's a quickish cab ride.
Club Macanudo is excellent - very old school drinking and cigar club - very different to the soho house vibe, or at least my experiences of it in London. Depending on where you're staying, the concierge in the decent hotels are usually very well connected and could get you into most places. We stayed at the Plaza and the concierge looks and sounds like James Gandolfini and seemed to know everyone. He got us a table at Nobu on a Saturday night which was a result and was superb..

Enjoy your trip!

You wouldn't like the bars I go to though, having looked at Milk & Honey.

Which Nobu did you go to - Tribeca or Midtown West?

Best steak is in Del Friscos, google it. It's a double eagle steak house. I was there two weeks ago and two different companies took me there on different occasions, pure coincidence but two sets of locals can't be wrong. Pricey but best steak I've ever had.

Avoid times square like the plague.

Make that the whole of mid-town. Actually not sure you need to venture north of 14th St for great food....I think the best restaurants when it comes to fun interesting places are still to be had in the villages or nearby. Anything north of there tends to be formulaic and over priced.

A rooftop bar called 230 Fifth near Madison Park. Not a club per se but a cool place to get your night started. You can see the Empire State from it.

Mr chows tribeca is nice to go to and near Bubble lounge for champagne before your meal. We enjoy Sushisamba, Spice market, budakhan (not the best food but enjoyable place) and many others.

For reasonable price in Meat Packing Land Air and Sea do a decent Asian meal.

Bars, everywhere and consider Hoboken which is where I live.
