All I would recomend is do not go in the summer - its unbearable, with kids it would be hell.

But at this time of year it will be just about right and if you stay at the Atlantis you will never see anything of the kids if they like pools/slides and the like.

Been 7 times in the last three years and always stay at the Royal Meridien Beach resort. Trip advisor, the top ratings website, pretty much always have it in their top three, Atlantis falls well below. The Royal does not have the glitz of Atlantis or the Royal Mirage but makes up for it with service you cannot touch. Has 8 or 10 eateries including a Gary Rhodes, 3 pools, fantastic kids club and is right on a huge beach. Gym is top notch as are the spas. Drinks are pricey but all Dubai hotels are. Summer temps are fierce. Good trips to go on include the sand dune safari and take a cab (cheap) to El Karama for decent fake goods if thats your sort of thing. Very family friendly place. The beach manager will take you out on their powerboat (for a fee) right round the Palm and up to the Burj al Arab.

I've just spent a week staying at Atlantis the Palm on business, but I did get to experience the water park etc.
If you have kids it's something of a paradise, plenty to do all day and a very safe environment to do it in.

As another poster said, the temperature has calmed down there now, so it's possible to sit outside and not die from the heat!

My only reservation would be that I think you'd want to do more than just Atlantis if you're there for 10 days and it's a reasonable journey in to the malls etc (about $15 in a cab)
The Palm is actually a fair way from the centre of Dubai and there isn't a huge amount to do there tourist wise.

If you do stay at Atlantis, try and go for an Imperial Club room, the free breakfast means that you won't need lunch and there were many families staying whilst I was there who were using the free early evening buffet for dinner, meaning no restaurant bills. (with the prices of the places in Atlantis being what they are, that's no small saving)

Wherever you stay, have fun, Dubai is a great place and I can't wait to go back.
