Right- A friend of mine has lent me a Rucksack for my travels, but its not suitable- so I need to buy one QUICK!

If any of you lot can help, I will be grateful!

Requirements:

- Must be big enough for two weeks worth of travelling
- all zips must be lockable with padlocks (not cable ties etc...)
- not to expensive, and available to buy in shops!

I've seen this one from Argos, but i'm not sure if it has zips!

Anyone able to help?!

Top-loading rucksacks like that are a pain if you need to secure them because the usual drawstring tops don't lend themselves to padlocking, plus they tend to have zipped pockets and other ways into the main bag.

If security is important, you want a travel pack like one of these:

(Cotswold in Covent Garden has a few of those in stock, btw - was looking for similar for my gf at the weekend)

(or £80 in F&T - although not sure if that would apply in store)

..which has a zipped opening around the main part that can be padlocked shut. For flying, having the strap cover that stops the shoulder/waist straps flapping about helps a lot too. Not cheap but will last.

Else if it's just a bag that needs a quick shouldering rather than a long walk, a duffel bag like this with backpack straps might do the job - I use one for diving trips for my kit (it's as light as possible to make the most of baggage allowance!):

Look at Eagle Creek, not cheap but has a no quibble life time guarantee. We have a super orv trunk 36 and 2 swithback 25's.The switchback has detachable day sack. The best thing is it does everything,it can be carried like a rucksack, wheeled like a flight bag, carried like a briefcase and shouldered like a sports bag. They are not cheap but in my opinion nothing comes close to the switchback.I don't work for Eagle Creek I'm just avery satisfied customer.

Try to get a side loading bag where you can unzip an entire side panel, much easier to get stuff in and out of, with top loaders you have to get everything out to get something from the bottom. I bought a MacPac Gemini system (which has a regular small rucksack zipped to a larger side loading rucksack, hense Gemini) 9 years ago and it's still going strong now, infact I'm pretty sure that they'll outlast me! All the zips had double pulls on them which can be locked together with a small padlock or, as I prefer, a small combination lock - no key to lose! It wasn't cheap but I'd advise paying as much as you can afford, I doubt I'll have to buy another decent bag like that again. Cheaper bags can suffer with poor zips, thinner materials, less padding, and uncomfortable and ill fitting/poorly adjustable straps.
I got mine from Field and Trek, found them to be very helpful and you can have a good poke and prod at their display models, I think that they may have a sale on now as well smile
