Me and mate have narrowed it down to two resorts for late january

2 guys, Late 20's intermediate to good boarders ( 5 seasons in)

choices are
Avoriaz
or
Sauze d'oulx

Anyone been or have an opinion on either?

I've been to both and would say from a boarding point of view, Avoriaz and it's connection to the PdS system is the far superior option.
I haven't been to Sauze for 10+ years, but then I found it to be a smelly, scruffy dump. There was some good riding to be had, but the lift system was delapidated and broke down frequently. I'm sure the main lift out of Sauze must have been replaced by now though.
Avoriaz, Morzine and the connected areas offer everything to the good intermediate boarder.
If you're going in late Jan - see you there!

yesWe were a long way from the lift, and that involves a big lift before you get to anything ski/boardable, and IIRC (although hopefully it's been upgraded) it involved a lift change once you got to the halfway point.

Avoriaz is much better all round.

Avoriaz every time . . .

Board in / Out
Good lift system
Good Pistes
Trees
PDS network (worth the extra cash IMO)
Several good parks (if that floats your boat)

If you get the chance do the night sledding from Avoriaz down to plenney cable with just a head torch cold but great fun!

Only time I've been to Sauze was when I was learning to board - it was so icy it put me off so much I now ski smile

Cheers all

The parks thing was a consideration. Also i do like trees around the pistes it was one the few things i liked about Boravets and missed in other French resorts and pas de la casa.

Got a great deal for early Jan which means i have to take fewer days off work too. Really looking forward to it now!

edited to add chose Avoriaz
