Don't break out the violins!

Folks are going away this Xmas, and all my mates are now 'familied' up with wives/girlfriends/babies, which puts paid to the group Xmas breaks we all used to take together.

So, being without a significant other, I don't want to spend Xmas sat in front of the xBox/TV [which is exactly what I did for a week last year! rolleyes]

I want to spend a cheap couple of days away from it all. What options do I have? I thought about taking the overnight ferry to Esbjerg in Denmark, but even that's £450 return with a cabin, and I still have to find a hotel whilst I'm there.

Ideas [however off-the-wall] welcomed.

It can be. Look at Andorra or Bulgaria.

On option is decide your budget have the money to hand and head to a travel agents, ask them to find you a holiday to that budget book and buy that moment. Doing this may mean that a week in Sharm, becomes an option or that something you wouldn't have considered is now a possibility.

The last minute thing at the travel agents is a good idea,

remember if you are travelling alone the rates published in travel agents brochures are based on 2 sharing and they curse you with the single room suppliment.

Have a look at Solo's or JustYou for single traveller holidays - but they are not cheap (for reasons above + they rovide a rep).

Failing that easyjet may be a great option see what they have to where and then figure out a hotel at the destination (tripadvisor). I did the dominican rep with solos last year - thinking about it again but maybe somewhere more local and a week rather than 2, dont care aas long as it's warm - there are things to do and I can sit on my arse with a drink and a book in peace and quiet when I'm not doing stuff.

just get a cheap week all inclusive somewhere there are always loads of people you can meet.

park inn radisson in egypt was £259 all inclusive last time i looked inc flights, cuba is around £450 all inclusive etc.

the first 2 days rest and some sun, then just chill out and have some beers and get meeting the couples/blokes/women.

People go away all the time on their own

Was going to suggest this. Raise more funds, 500 ish for flights and 500 for erm... Drinks?

Seriously it's worth a visit, decent weather and very cheap once you get there.

Depends if it snows in Scotland, bit of a road trip couple of days on the slopes, you don't need friends to ski, go to ski school and meet people while they teach you how to ski. Last time I went skiing I couldn't! complete novice, I went with 4 people who could ski so they left me at skischool with the other novices a lot of who were like me on their own and it was great.

Malta? Was warm enough to swim on Christmas Day last year. You can fly with ryanair cheap and get hotels cheap too. Go chat to the lads in The Dubliner in Spinola Bay and you'll probably get invited to a Christmas Dinner too!
