I'm sending my parents away for a weekend to see one of their favourite bands in 2011.

My choices are either Zurich or Hamburg. I've been to Zurich before and it is beautiful, but I've never done Hamburg. What is it like?

My gut instinct is to send them to Zurich, but the dates for Hamburg are better.

Hotel suggestions for either are very welcome.

Hamburg is a fabulous city, very green and very walkable although the public transport is excellent. Great place to send your parents, there's something for everyone there. I visit Hamburg 5-6 times a year since I have quite a few friends there.

It's a great city for all types of live music.

If I had a choice of city to live for a few years (or longer), it would be Hamburg or Vienna just for the fantastic quality of life.

If they go to Hamburg, this hotel was very nice for the price.

I visited Hamburg for 24 hours last year to do a quick software implementation. I was really impressed with everything about the city (except the Lufthansa lounge at the airport).

Reeperbahn is great fun, open until 6-7am, great bars, live music and places filled with all age groups.

Although Lufthansa do some great prices, I got a ticket from Frankfurt to Hamburg and back for €99 all inclusive smile Only booked it 2 weeks in advance.
