Mum and dad have called to say their flight home from Barcelona to edinburgh has been cancelled and all flights into scotland are suspended.

Any ideas from people in the know how long this will last?
They have the choice of trying to find a different way home, (bus or trains?) or book into a hotel and wait it out and claim the costs back from travel insurance?

Dam this global warming hehe

The BAA site only mentions that Edinburgh has now reopened after an earlier closure due to snow, but some airlines have decided to cancel flights instead of postponing them as they didn't know the length of the delays and wanted aircraft back in position for other flights.

Edinburgh airport was closed, however someone on another forum posted an aircraft was inbound a short while ago, so it could be open again.

UK airspace certainly isn't closed - northern airports are struggling with the snow.

No snow down South yet - so at the very worst they can fly in to London airports.

By far the easiest way from Barcelona is the train: sleeper to Paris and then Eurostar would be my choice. http://www.seat61.com/Spain.htm#Barcelona

UK airspace is definitely not closed.
A few airfields have been shut in the North and Scotland, but suitable diversion airfields will be found; some are quite far South though!
