Hey guys,

Due to crappy semester/exam dates, I can no longer go on the eagerly anticipated Uni ski trip over christmas, this is a cause of much heartache and distress to me.

However, a few friends and myself, not easily beaten, have vowed to organise a ski trip ourselves (about 4/5 of us) that wont have an impact on our exams.

So... the questions I came here to ask, as I've never organised a trip myself before are;

A) Where's good end of January sort of time?
B) Where's cheap?
C) Best to book as soon as possible? Or try and get a last second deal?
D) To fly or drive? Bearing in mind we would have the use of your average student stty 1.2 eurobox, nothing luxurious or in any way powerful.

As well as any other pearls of wisdom Pistonheads would kindly throw my way smile.

Thanks in advance guys.

Try the Chalet Chardon in Tignes Les Brevieres. Not been there for a few years but could be just what you're after?
If you cram 4/5 into 1 car driving down may well be a cheap option .
Make sure that you get min 1/2 board tho, esp in France as food n stuff stupidly expensive.. Chalet board usually includes wine at meals..Get pissed for free smile

I've stayed at the Chalet Chardon 5 years in a row,
1993-1998 Nottingham Medics Ski Trips.

Tignes-Val D'Isere (the Valley of desire) is a great ski area.

I can't remember a single thing about the Chalet (c)Hardon, apart from the dorm rooms which were ace for us and the bar which sold alcohol.

Coach down each time, we had a 10% injury rate for skiers (never me)

1.2 litres is quite.... how can I put it.... buzzy, after about 6 hours on the motorway down there

DO IT!

Sounds perfect, looking at it more though, it seems silly to drive.

All the costs would keep mounting, petrol for 2 cars, parking when there, ferry, as well as probably having to invest in snow chains which are apparently according to Halfrauds £70 would end up rather expensive in total.

Whilst in contrast, Difficult-jet are offering a return for £60 + £12 for ski bagage to Geneva.

Also, anyone know any decent/cheap places to rent boards/skis from?

Only one i've found one company to be of a comparable price to the ones offered at Uni http://www.edge2edge.co.uk/

Hell ! I've just looked back and i was there 95 and 96. Jeez i'm old frown
We bussed down as well with the worst coach co' in England, infact the world ! The coach was knackered and doing 10kmh up the mountain belching black smoke with a 5k stream of irate motorists behind.
They brought a mechanic out to fix it during the week but he was to pissed to make much difference.
The only 2 videos (showing age again) they had were Jurrasic park and Kellys heroes.they put Kellys Heroes on just as everyone had nodded off.
I remember on the return journey Jurasic park came on for the 3rd time a bloke at the back of the bus went beserk and stormed up the aisle threatening to beat the Co driver up laugh Brill entertainment.
We couldnt care less as we paid £100 each and were gob smacked to find we had 1/2 board and glug included as well.
Good times at the Chalet hardon. smile
Some mates went last year and had a great time, planning to go again this year so must be in good hands, i know it has changed ownership since.
