Are the roads to Gatwick Airport passable?

I've seen the other post where the chaps car is stuck near Gatwick which made me wonder if I should attempt to drive to Gatwick this afternoon.

Assuming my flight leaves (I'll be checking the flight info throughout the day) will it be safe to attempt to drive to Gatwick or will I just get stuck. I have no idea what the road conditions are like.
