We've got two kids under the age of 5 and due to not having family nearby have never had time away from them just to get some time to ourselves. We really need a break from kids, routine etc. Finally We can take up to a week in April next year. Can any of you good chaps recommend something? Anywhere, not fussy except cost shouldnt be too high although not budget either. Not looking for detail (unless its offered).
Just a place a couple can go thats not too hectic and not too quiet so that we can re-discover why we got married. smile

What location do you prefer?

A couple we've stayed at recently:
Lake District - http://www.lindethfell.co.uk/
Peak District - http://www.losehillhouse.co.uk/

UK or Europe?
Pressumably not too much further if it's for a week and keeping an eye on cost.

Edited this, to give some thoughts.

UK:-
Swinton Park, Masham, North Yorks. http://www.swintonpark.com/
Seaham Hall, County Durham. http://www.seaham-hall.co.uk/
Cliveden House, Berks. http://www.clivedenhouse.co.uk/default.asp
A week would probably be too much at any of them, but you could combi 2 of them with a nice drive.
How about Babbington House/St Moritz type places?

Europe:-
Aldrovandi Palace Hotel, Rome. http://www.aldrovandi.com/
Majorca? Lovely places around Deia - La Residencia for one.

Must be loads of others.

Down to your budget really.

You may find this useful http://www.childfriendly.co.uk/

I still really enjoy holiday with my children at Center Parcs, I know it's not to everyones taste and has fair few haters on PH, but out of school holidays, it offers a good balance, you can also book a baby sitter for an evening, which means you have a chance to use the Spa or go out for dinner.

What kind of things do you want to do (e.g. walking, cycling, tourist type visits)?

The PH 'haters' can add me to their club. I just took our kids to Center Parcs (Longleat) this weekend gone... based on very positive memories I had of the place in my teen years in the mid 90's when I guess the parks were relatively new (and I wasn't paying the bill).

You wouldn't get me back there if you paid me. The price of everything was extortionate and the standard of everything was medicore at best. The kids did have fun, but it still wasn't worth it. We packed and left 24 hours early, I didn't even last 3 days.

That looks close enough to be able to do the Stelvio and back in a day from there?

Any one know what the weather is like in Kefalonia at that time of year? A villa there sounds like exactly what you are after - something my wife and I used to do every year to just relax, eat, drink, snorkel and enjoy each other. Although we normally go in June/July... About £1k for a week for two.

On the upside, go to a Centre Parc in Europe. We`ve been to ones in France three times, Belgium and Germany. Even with the crossing and the travelling its much cheaper than a UK parc. Not had a bad experience yet, great for the children and the one in Germany was close to the Ring. Did 4 laps in the family hack.

I've stayed here, absolutely brilliant and worth every penny.

The outside hot tub overlooking the pennines is ace.

Go to Kerala in southern India. The costs are not that high and the costs while there are insanely cheap offsetting the travel there. OK, it is an 11 hour flight but it's damned worth it.

The weather is good in April, was there at the beggining of May few years back & the weather was superb.
Kefalonia would be an awsome choice if relaxing without any hastle is what you are after.

On the whole, the weather is much better than over here in April. Although, you can be unlucky as there still can be a good amount of rainfall at that time of year. The other problem to consider is that direct flights to Kefalonia don't start until 1st May, so you'd have to go via Athens in April.

Feel free to PM me if you want some more info on Kefalonia...my family is from there and I spent a good deal of my life growing up on the Island.
