I'm flying Business for the first time with Qantas in January to Bangkok and was wondering what the dress code is like ?

As have heard that no trainers or denim jeans are allowed etc

Or can I just wear what I want?

^^^ This. You've paid for the ticket, as long as you're not wearing anything obscene they can't really do much.

If you do wear something cruddy, don't expect an upgrade though!

Oh, and don't forget to load up on bubbly.... biggrin

I was flying to malasia with my family a month or so ago, and watched a family of literally screaming children including babe in arms going up the stairs to first class. They had scruffy jeans, teeshirt, and all had camping size backpacks on.

I think if you are going to dress for fist class travel you are going to be very dissapointed by who else is there.

Whatever you want as has been said - in first I'll still wear jeans, hoody and trainers - and as you're in first they will still treat you the same regardless of what you wear.

Agree with all the above bits about you've paid so wear what you like. My experience has always been to look semi smart (jeans/casual shirt/polished shoes) and you get a better reception from the cabin crew. Looking like a pikey with money usually has the opposite effect.

Just remembered, we had a flight a few years ago BA 1st class to Orlando, all was great until the Sugarmans got on, Mum,Dad and 3 assorted brats, they made life hell for everyone else in the cabin, and the crew avoided them like a lardy at the salad bar. Money dones not always go hand in hand with class, regardless of what you wear

Yep!
I flew back from JFK to Paris a few years ago on Air France. I was at the front of business class and there was 1 person in First class - "Keef" from the Stones! Scruffy old git.

I got a free upgrade to BA Business Class flying back from Shanghai in February. Wonderful surprise! I was wearing combats and tee-shirt. Flew back from Shanghai again yesterday with Virgin, and they wouldn't give me anything for free! They did, however, offer me an upgrade for £1300, which, if on par with BA prices, meant I got an amazing deal in February!

If you're flying qantas business class for any distance I recommend wearing a mattress. Their seat seem to get more uncomfortable every time I fly.

As your flying Qantas, you should be issued with your own outfit for the flight when you take your seat;

Are you being serious with this question?

If so, the answer is;
Make sure you remove your bowler hat as you board the plane.
Ensure that your cane is in your right hand.
Socks must be held up with garters.
Jackets must be unbuttoned prior to sitting.
Change into slippers when boarded, and they must be monogrammed.

My sister got a job as cabin crew on BMI Baby and one of the perks was that family members could fly business class with BMI for about a third of the actual ticket price. However there were conditions attached one of which being a dresscode of no jeans, sports wear or trainers. This always struck me as a little odd but I just assumed it was to try and keep the inevitable riff raff at bay.

rofl Definitely this.

I fly in Business pretty regularly, always t-shirt and jeans or shorts in the summer. Have been bumped up to First despite being in shorts and a t-shirt. I've seen people wearing a suit on a long haul flight, seems a bit strange. Short haul, you're probably going straight to a meeting, after a 10 hour flight that arrives at night? I doubt it.

ok ok I get the point biggrin

As I said I had heard a rumour that there was a dress code for Business and First and this turned out to be true but only for staff/family travel on discounted tickets.

Thanks for all your help and abuse biggrin
