can't think of any tbh. murder can happen anywhere, though i'd shy away from iraq and afghanistan right now due to their shoddy reputation for package tours.

i have one friend who refused to come to israel with us as he doesn't agree with israeli politics. nor do i, but i still went.

other than a warzone, i will go anywhere. even then, i'd visit a warzone for a sufficiently interesting reason [reportage, NGO work etc.].

Saudi Arabia. Why go there? Ridiculously hot. Appalling attitude to just about anyone who is not native Saudi male. Hypocrisy on a heroic scale.

Same goes for me really. As long as I haven't got a high chance of being blown up, I'll go.

Don't right off South Africa due to one incident. It's a very nice place, and as said you could get murdered anywhere.

Friend of mine working in Afghanistan at present (security contractor) and apart from the ropey bits, he says its a nice place.

I've just invested some cash in Iraq, hoping to visit soon.

Somalia is the place I'd not want to go, and perhaps Nigeria too

Yeah, S. Africa is not a bad place, in fact there are some awesome places to go in SA.

Think i'd try avoid Somalia, Zimbabwe, Pakistan, War zones etc, usual places that have either been devastated by war or by natural disasters...

I went to Zimbabwe 4 years ago and really enjoyed it particularly around Victoria Falls, however I would be a little wary going there now.

South Africa is pretty safe as long as your are not married to a closet gay entrepreneur who makes illicit calls to taxi drivers.

As mentioned previously by others, war zones would be out as would be Thailand. As a 40 something slightly overweight, balding chap people may think I am going for one thing!

Gambia was one I visited but would never return. Ok the weather was superb in January but the constant hastle everywhere we went was enough for us to never want to return. We were followed for 2 hours whilst walking along the beach by one local who wouldn't leave us alone & in the end I gave him 2 choices. Either go away or I would contact the police! He dissapeared after that because they know that the police do not tolerate begging or hassling towards tourists as the country really depends on them & apparently if caught they are taken away to farms etc to work as slaves. Bit extreme but after witnessing the constant hastle, I can understand why they use such extreme measures.

Naru. Don't see the point as it's only 8 square miles and most of that is abandoned phosphate mines.

extreme measures?

If i was subjected to that kind of poverty, i too would resort to extreme measures!!

however, i know the Gambia is a little hardcore on the hassle front. We always had security when we went out, but still managed to find myself in the police station twice due to locals.

weather is good tho!
