Four in a bed - b&b prog
Discussion
I've been watching this TV prog on channel 4 the last couple of weeks.
It's changes weekly and is about 4 bed and breakfast owners visiting each others establishments and judging them on welcome, cleanliness, facilities etc.
I've been and still do, go to loads of B&Bs and often thought ( especially when bad) if the proprietors had actually stayed in their own B&B to see what a guest might think of it.
I'm hoping this series will flag up some of the B&B's I've stayed in - but otherwise think it's great for a preview of what may be available in a particular area.
Anyone else watching? or any comments?

I've been watching it, on and off. Used to be Three in a bed, and was much better. The feedback in the old format was far more useful - it was a good insight into what I'd imagine it's like to operate a B&B, but is now on a par with that dreadful cooking programme where people compete with each other to behave like absolute tits. Come dine with me.
It's a shame because, as I said, the first series was very good. It's now all about tactical paying, and appears that the producers are trying to inspire rows for "good" TV. One of the participants overpaid in the last show I watched, just so that another couldn't win. That's not what it should be about. The Mrs still watches it, and if it's on when I'm in the room, fine. I wouldn't make an effort to see it now.

I'm always staggered by the prices some of them think are obtainable for after all what is allegedly a b & b, they appear to be somewhat unrealistic given that in a city most weekends you can book exec suites at £70ish. For example just booked exec rooms at Crown Plaza over xmas at £76 a night, normal rooms are only £59.

Totally agree with this. Being in the business I find it interesting to see what other B&B's are offering but the new format has ruined the whole concept of the show. I do hope that the show can "raise the game" in the B&B industry by opening the eyes of those B&B owners who have become complacent and think its OK to offer a pile of outdated crap. As a B&B owner who takes a lot of pride in his business its offensive that so many B&B's give the business such a poor reputation. It's a shame because, as I said, the first series was very good. From a viewers point of view though, I find this deliberate selection of controversial characters and the tactics of the contestants totally ridiculous. They've kind of missed the point by trying to make it more watchable. As far as I'm concerned they've achieved precisely the opposite.

It's drivel. Trying to be Come Dine with Me without Dave Lamb.
Dave Lamb is the best bit.But agree both shows are drivel.
Just like Holiday showdown, artificially contrived arguments, though it must be said some of those appearing could easily have an argument in an empty room.
