I want to book seven days to Las Vegas for four adults (me, wife 2x kids in their 20's) for October 2011. I have looked at Virgin and for the Bellagio its £4367 flights and room only.....gulp !

What we want.

A good standard hotel, must be modern and clean with a good pool area and not full of kids.
Must be close to the main strip without having to get a cab or bus, 5 minute walk is ok (I understand its like walking in an open oven)

Flights must be direct from London to Las Vegas. We dont want to go to L.A. or anywhere else,
just Las Vegas.

So howand with who is the best place to book to achieve this and save a few quid ? I know it's expensive but is there a way to get what I want for closer to £3200-£3500 ? without going to a crappy hotel ? Any advice from anyone who has Vegas experience much appreciated.

Virgin for the flights, we use them every time - flights from Gatwick.

Last time we went we stayed here, it's just off the strip, cheap, excellent rooms and service. Not flashy and not right on the strip, but if you are after a cheap room at one of the main players go to Hotwire.com. They don't tell you the name of the hotel until after you book, but from the description you can usually work out which one it is. We scored an amazing room at the Wynn for around $100 a night (or it might even have been less). There are forums out there which can assist in ID-ing which hotels they're offering based on what other people got.

When you say "October 2011" how flexible on dates are you?

The price of hotel rooms varies hugely week-to-week depending on what conferences/exhibitions are going to be on.

It would be worth check prices for the whole period from mid-Sept to mid-Nov to find the cheapest week.

I just went through the same thing a week ago but now have everything booked. Am going in Jan

First thing to do is to check the convention callender and see if any big conventions are happening during the time you want to go.

http://www.lvcva.com/meetings/convention-calendar....

If there is a big convention then prices will be sky high and not that easy to get a good deal especially at one of the nicer hotels.

Check alpharooms and I would estimate that direct flights will cost approx 500 - 600 pp.

BA also do a direct flight from heathrow and is an option to look at.

I just did a quick search on expedia for flight + hotel with 2 rooms for 7 days from 1/10/2011:

Trump International Hotel £3,380.70
The Signature at MGM Grand £3,508.62
MGM Grand £3,474.60
Treasure Island £3,506.08
Planet Hollywood £3,543.56
New York New York £3,442.10
Luxor £3,160.00

I think they were all with direct flights with KLM from London.

So there is loads of choice in your budget, the Bellagio is just pretty expensive.

Not sure KLM have direct flights.

Virgin from gatwick is your best bet.

Wynn or encore, you won't regret it.

The Trump has to be the pick of that bunch doesn't it?
Although The Signature at 34 quid more than The Grand is something of a result.

If you really want to reduce the costs OP then you're going to need to do some legwork.
When I went to Vegas a couple of years ago, I got a high floor room in the MGM Grand for $49 a night thanks to an offer code I found online.
Flights should be doable for 500 quid a head (why only direct... probably cheaper to transfer and it's hardly the biggest hassle)

While cheaper to do indirect flights IMHO its not worth the hassle. First the reduction in prices I have seen are not huge. Secondly the actual time to finally get to vegas is long. By the time you have changed flights been through security etc it can easily total 24 hrs by the time you get to your destination. Couple this with your messed up time zones by the time you are rearing to go you have lost valauable time. Going direct with a little planning can make sure your reasnoably fresh for when you arrive in vegas and not losing much time.

At the end of the day you have to say if saving that few hundred pounds is worth the hassle of the extra time as well as the lost holiday time.

I'd suggest you'd get better rates booking your flight and hotel seperately. Virgin usually have a sale in January so you may get cheap flights then. As others have suggested look for at the dates of conventions etc and go at a quiet time (although that said if you are aa hotel where a convention is on the pools are usually emtpy all day!).

Id book a hotel direct or through an american travel website - they are usually much cheaper than out tour operators.

Can't comment on the flights as we drove up to Vegas from LA, but I can recommend the Trump hotel. When we were there (over the Labour Day weekend), the rooms were only £65ish a night - not bad for a relatively new 5* hotel! One of the plus points for the Trump was that there was no casino, which meant that the place was pretty quiet and was smoke free.

There was a new hotel being built whilst we were there - the Palazzo, I think it's part of the Venetian, they might have some deals going?

Stayed at encore for 3 nights 2 days ago. Amazing!! Far better than the rest IMO!

Staff simply couldnt do enough to help. Very smart rooms and a casino that didn't stink of cigars and old booze. Also seemed to have the best free drinks girls!

For direct flight's your options are Virgin or BA, I have stayed at most of the strip resorts and TBH you cant go wrong with Planet Hollywood its smack in the center of the strip, and with a strip view you will be able to see the Bellagio lake and the pool area is OK to.

Fri 7 Oct 2011 – Thu 13 Oct 2011

Flights with BA direct, £2,506.12

6 Nights at Planet Hollywood (Fountain view room), £717.82

Nooooo!

I stayed at the Paris across the road from the Bellagio fountains and after the second time of seeing it you begin to loath it. It's loud enough that you can hear it going off from your room, Celine Bloody Dion and faux patriotic songs chuntering away morning, noon and night.
