Snow = Holiday Cancelled = Three weeks of nothing!
Discussion
Right, well thats my dream holiday cancelled. Three weeks in sunny Australia cancelled due to a few inches of snow in London. Great....not that I am bitter or anything..!
So I now have three weeks off work, absolutely nothing to do, weathers pants starting to go stir crazy with absolutely no christmas cheer whatsoever.
If it was summer I would point the car south and head to the Alps / Pyrennes with the family get away from it all but that will be madness this time of year.
So what can I do? I could spend Christmas at home and try and join in with mates pre made plans but after a tough year need to get away.
Any suggestions or options for a late getaway from a non London airport?!
Cheers
Matt

Is all lost really?
Can a late kick off (few days delays until you fly) not salvage the holiday ?
Cathy Pacific cannot update on when they are likely to be able to fly us out. We suspect it will be around 27th at a guess. However, we are flying via Hong Kong so missed our connecting flight so firstly they will need to sort that. And when they do we are flying to Cairns, yet supposed to bethen flying internally to Melbourne on 24th. So unless they can fly us direct to Melbourne then there is no point.... Can a late kick off (few days delays until you fly) not salvage the holiday ?

I really really hope something can be pulled out the bag to salvage, even a week would make it still worthwhile. Fingers crossed!!

can you fly from, say East midlands to somewhere which connects to a cathy pacific light to the airport?
Its another stage, but might be possible (especially as they cancelled the flight not you, etc etc??)
thats possible. does anyone know if there are any other coutries experiencing the same problems. I could fly from Amsterdam for instance if they are willing to do anything Its another stage, but might be possible (especially as they cancelled the flight not you, etc etc??)

As I have posted in some of the threads in the travel section; its not the snow that is going to be the major issue - its the out of position planes and crews and the huge backlog created over the last couple of days that are going to scupper things.
A lot of flights for Heathrow were diverted to Brussels for example, which is now closed itself until Weds, due to a lack of de-icing fluid. If the plane you were supposed to be on is parked in Belgium you arent going anywhere even if Heathrow etc is back in business.
We had planes landing in Nice, Zurich, Hannover, Frankfurt, Brussels - all of which were meant for Heathrow and all of which will need crewing and scheduling just to get back to the UK.
The last time this happened was the Ash cloud, and that took weeks (not days) to sort out.

Flights available from Manchester on Thursday?
Warm, interesting place for a week. Nice people and Sicily only 70 mins by hydrofoil for a day out...

If you have a little bit of cash there are flights to KL from Stansted still free this week, you could probably then get a direct flight to somewhere in Oz pretty easily and there will be no problem getting an internal flight.
Return flight to KL with Air Asia £1072
Then you can get a combination of flights with Emirates and Malaysian Airlines from KL to Melbourne for $945
So it is still possible, just depends on how much cash you have etc.
