I usually stay in the Marriot on Times Sq but it seems daft to spend that sort of money on a hotel for the weekend when i'll be in town on my own. Can anyone suggest somewhere else that might be worth checking out?

Budget is around £100 a night really, anything less would be a bonus and I don't mind paying upfront for the room using places like Expedia, etc.

Any help appreciated.

I stayed at the Pod Hotel when i was there a few years ago. That might be a good option?

Have a look at this. I will be checking it out next time I go as it's in a great location for me.

For location and a great price the YMCA near central park is a great place to stay and i dont think you will find a private / single room for less on Manhatten that is so central. Only a 5min walk from Broadway etc and right on Central park. Rooms are very, very basic - mine was more of a "cell" than a room but if your not too fussed by that then its well worth a look. Also as there is so much to do whilst in the city your probably not likely to spend a great deal of time in the room anyways so its being basic shouldn't really matter? If your a sociable type then you can usually meet some interesting people as well. I have stayed in much more expensive hotels in the states but if i'm going to NY to hang out as a single traveller then i would go back there again.

Just to say I've booked a room here, It's a little more money than I was hoping to spend, but it seems like a nice place and certainly gets some positive reviews at TripAdvisor.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Speak to Flashman, he's off there with work!

You could fill us in on the bits he doesn't want to tell us about.
