Just on a vietnam road trip at the moment and thought I'd post a couple of pics for you guys to have a look at. Gonna keep this brief mainly because I can't be arsed to write much.

Firstly, the rickety bridge of doom. Nothing special, just a few holes in the floor and a half missing hand rail.

Next, the 'pull it yourself' ferry

Thirdly, that old favourite... the '2 tire inner tubes, a bit of wood and a half submerged telephone wire' design classic

Fourthly, the boat that worryingly had to be emptied of water when it arrived at the pier

And last, but certainly not least (actually by far the best), the high speed zip line method. Absolutely insane... but so good!

I've got to say, Vietnam by bike is possibly the most amazing thing I have ever done, or even ever conceived. Its quality!

As a half arsed attempt to make this into some sort of continuous thread and not just some beer fuelled showing off opportunity, has anyone got any other pics of weird and wonderful ways of crossing rivers from around the world?

Zip line, with a motorbike? MENTAL!

Take it easy on the roads in Nam, please!

Visited Ha Noi, Da Nang, Halong Bay and Hoi An a couple of years ago. The moped/scooter traffic in Ha Noi scared the crap out of me!

Not that weird, no, but then we needed to transport a landy so I suspect a zip wire (eek) wouldn't be up to the job. biggrin

That zipwire is absolutely brilliant thumbup
I did a bit of biking in Vietnam a couple of years ago and a few days in Laos last summer.
I'll definitely be back to do some more before long smile

O/T but how are you finding life in Vietnam? Always imagined it to be a cool place to live!
