Can anyone recommend a nice hotel near the Stresa/Verbania part of the Lake please? Not looking for budget - just a nice hotel for 3 or 4 nights in May - budget up to 1000 Euros. Prefer family owned smaller places if poss but can go with the bigger places if service is good smile

TIA

We've stayed here a few times on the way down to Tuscany. Regular boats to and from the mainland. Does great food too.

My Mother got married in a very beautiful little town called Baveno, very near to Stresa.

They stayed here.

I stayed in smaller place in Baveno

They just returned for their 10th anniversary to the same place and got upgraded to the Churchill suite, needless to say, she was made up, and absolutely loves the place....

Make sure you visit the little islands too - they're spectacular!

HTH - Nico.

Edited to say you should also take the cable car up the mountain, not surprisingly the views are awesome....

Parking not an issue this time - we're going to fly down and grab a rental.

Last time we drove down to Sicily via Lake Como (and other places) in our two Elises so it was high on our list of priorities!

We stayed in Stresa at La Luna Nel Porto (http://www.lalunanelporto.it/indexuk.html) last September and couldn't recommend it enough.

Rooms were very spacious and well presented.

The lady that runs it was supremely helpful, recommending places to eat, what to see etc.

Stresa was probably one of the highlights of our trip, quite a few tourists but it is stunning with some great restaurants and the three islands well worth a look.

You HAVE to stay at the Grand Hotel Des Iles Borromees in Stresa. We went there on the Cannonball last year and its AMAZING. On the Cannonball recce we met Peter Fonda who was in the original Cannonball movie!

The hotel aint cheap but its one of the best hotels Ive ever stayed in, real Italian splendour and incredible views of the lake.
